New Toronto E90 Owner :)
I've been asking alot of questions on this board lately and doing alot of research on here and it really paid off. I went to Town and Country and picked up a TS 325i with the sunroof. I managed to get $1950 off of MSRP after some negotiating. Did I do alright??? They had the car on their lot, wonder if I could have negotiated some more?
Picking up the car at the end of the month. |

Which sales person did you deal with? I think you got a very good deal. Usually, there's not much negotiating space in Toronto. The car is on the lot, how come it still takes so long for you to pick up the car? |

I'm getting rid of my current car (sold) at the end of the month, so I decided to pick up the new one then also. Pm me if you would like to know the name of my salesperson.

Canadians and RWD?
I've been running a bit of mental tally here and it seems that most you from the Great White North seem to buy the i. I would have thought, of all places, the xi would most useful in Canada. What's up with that? Not much snow? Very flat terrain? Just curious, I'm trying to determine if I can live without AWD in CT with ski trips to VT (I always buy 4 dedicated snow tires either way). |

Great deal. I assume you are getting snow tires? Or do you mean you purchased the Touring 325 xi? (E91)
I really like my xi in wet , snow, or ice. Last edited by gratemech69er; 01-04-2006 at 07:05 PM.. |

Congrats! I'd say you got a good deal. Maybe I didnt negotiate enough, but would only offer me $500 off. Needless to say I didn't order from there. But maybe thats what my problem was, it wasn't on the lot and it had to be ordered.

hey polar3,
congrats on the purchase. sorry i didnt get back to your pm, as i was out of town. the deal you got seems pretty decent. i got about $1800 off on my 330i but it was a factory order, not taken off the lot. had I taken off their lot I woulda probably scored a much better deal. gotta echo swu tho... if the car is on their lot.. why till the end of the month for you to get it? Mine is supposedly being built Jan 8 and they're telling me i'll have it end of January but I'm kinda spectical. |

snapper- I currently drive around a rear-wheel drive c class with winters and have no problems. AWD is great in the winter but hurts a bit of performance in the summer along with low gas mileage. just my 2 cents
jigga- I'm getting rid of my car at the end of january so I chose not to pick up the 325i until then. I have no need for 2 cars at one time. Thanks everyone for the congrats! |

Most were either just at MSRP or under. I was about 1500 over invoice.

Good point, you got to know when to floor it and know when to hold it. I learned that the hard way and my poor e36 had to pay the price

The 330i is great in the snow if you have snow tires. Unless you live in extremely hilly terrain the xi version is not necessary (I traded in my 2002 330xi for a 2006 330i).

Thanks for the info guys,
Wife does have an SUV so always have that option for ski trips and bad snow days, but I do live in a hilly area and despite there being 4 separate routes to my house on my daily commute, each have at least 1 or 2 short sections of [what looks like] 30 degree grades that must be approached from near 90 degree turns (difficult to carry momentum). I guess this article worries me - FWD & RWD, even w/winter tires, could not make it up 30 degree grades from a standstill: http://www.caranddriver.com/article....&page_number=2 Guess I have to assume the land is pretty flat around the major cities of Canada.... I've only driven for a 200 miles or so in Canada, just over the western Maine border, and was completely shocked at immediate difference in road character once we crossed the border. The road went from hilly, twisty, poorly surfaced (Maine) to dead straight, flat, and table-top smooth (Canada). Perhaps that's the major difference that allows you guys to get by with RWD. I too do not like the idea of the AWD performance penalty 350 days/yr. just so I can make it up a few hundred yards 15 days/yr. Too bad BMW doesn't offer a real sport package on the xi.... Sorry polar3, don't mean to hijack your thread... congrats on the new ride. |

Congrats
and to answer snapper's question: yes, most of our highways are nicely maintained and we don't have toll booths! I was shocked when I was in NY, to be paying toll fees and drive on pretty shitty highways.. and as others have stated, winter tires are sufficient for Canadian winter unless you live North North, like Yukon or Yellowknife. |
