I mostly average about 50 miles a day normally and they tend to be dual carriage way type driving so hopefully I'll sneak it into the 20's
Should be able to get into the 20's no problem at all then.

I have just completed a 4,000 mile road trip over 6 weeks starting in the Scottish Islands via Aberdeen to Folkestone then France, Belgium, Germany, Luxemburg and Switzerland and some travel in South of England and South West Scotland. Average for the trip 32.5 mpg. Pretty much kept to within 2 or 3 mph of real speed limited (not the speedometer which reads 4mph high at 70mph) on longer hauls with gentler cruising while touring. A little time in some cities (Zurich, Basil, and Southampton.

Tragic..brilliant. I have already consoled myself with the fact that i am likely to be at least 10mpg (UK) worse off than my 2.0 TFSI Audi Q5 (Used to avg. 31-38mpg).

Oh well

I've done 3000 miles now. Mostly town/country and occasional weekend motorway use.

The first 1200 miles (break in) averaged 19mpg. The next 1800 averaged 22mpg. However I don't think thats much to do with the engine breaking in, rather I've learned to stick it in eco-pro as soon as I hit the motorway

If you nurse it in Eco-Pro on a strictly motorway journey, you can average 34mpg. Just.

im guessing most of us UK M40i owners have the petrol particulate model (late 2018 onwards)..unless your one of he the lucky few without it!
I think the B58TU1 engine will address the MPG issue when it comes out later this year.

You should be into the mid 20s if the traffic is moving. My work Journey is stop start in rush hour for 7 miles and im getting between 18-21 on that sort of journey in sport mode.

Ah that's ok then. I was get a bit worried reading this thinking 20 would be a dream but I won't go too nuts in it anyway, just nice to know the power is there if I want it.

Where i live i have to deal with a lot of hills. When i moved here i brought a couple of cars with me, and my average MPG went down about 15% compared to the relative flatness of where i used to live.

My X3 M40i averages around 22mpg around here, so i'd expect it to average at least 24/5mpg in equivalent driving somewhere flatter.

Admittedly on short journeys i'm getting more like 20mpg, but on a decent motorway run i can average low to mid 30's quite easily.

Frankly there's nothing else out there which meets the requirements for my family bus. A Macan is too small in the back and the boot, and everything else comparable is simply too dull to drive. An M3 touring with a towbar would be a great replacement though...

I can certainly vouch for the area around where verysideways lives, VERY hilly!

Hmm, Surely next for you if not a M3 touring would be X3M?

Like you garage of cars, very nice. We have a 18 plate Mini JCW that is a blast, and made me realise very quickly the Q5 I had was too dull.

Loving the M40i so far :-)

Good to hear you like the X3 more than the Q5 as that was the other car I was looking at.

Such a shame we have the PPF which has taken away some of the noise and drama of the exhaust. Living with 20mpg would have been a lot easier if it still popped and banged in sport mode.

I average mid-low 20s driving around London. And mid-teens if I'm having fun.

Having said that, Mrs V drove the car to Bristol last week and managed to get 36mpg which is not bad at all.

I tried the new RS4 before choosing the X3M40i. Whilst a lovely drive, I found it way too cramped inside for its size. Just seemed to have wide panels everywhere with little space to match inside

Also tried the 340i Touring. It drove like a small car and was nice and compact. But agree I'd only be interested if it comes out in M form

I like the idea of the X3M but it's a lot of money... and more importantly the cost to change from my M40i would be high enough that i could buy a nice 997 and have change. The reality is that i use the full performance of my M40i less than 1% of the time i drive it. Do i really want to pay £40k to have an extra 150bhp for that 1% of the time?

I had the 340i touring before the X3 - fast but dull, and much more NVH than the X3. Road noise, tyre noise, etc.

Yeh I kinda felt the same after test drive. Quick enough but just a bit meh. Also lots of wind noise from the window!

Was kind of a joke, but completely agree with you. When I saw the price of x3M, I very quickly "settled" for a M40i, but then coming from a 2.0 TFSI Q5 if was a very nice jump. I can honestly say, I think this is the car I will keep the longest (My current record is 2.5 years), and have only had it 3 weeks

RS4 also SO much quieter nowadays with the 2.9 V6 along with PPF etc

I am sure for you, sound-wise it is an adjustment, but for me, the Q5 was so so quiet..my neighbour once asked if it was a hybrid when I was chatting to him whilst idling!

For me, the M40i sound lovely...LOVE start up, and even in comfort has decent sound, but Sport Individual for me

Had my M40i in Canada for about 2 weeks. About 1150 km's on the clock. Average consumption 11.8 l/100km (20 US MPG) so far and it seems to be drifting down by 0.1 every day or two so I suspect it will keep improving.

I actually find that quite impressive for what the M40i is. It is about inline with my C43AMG which was a sedan with about the same amount of power. Was expecting an SUV with more weight and inferior aerodynamics to get much worse mileage than my MB did. So far I am impressed.

My wife's Volvo XC90 is a pig though... average 13.9 l/100 km (16.9 US MPG). I expected that one to be much better than it is, even though it's a much bigger vehicle than the X3, it does not have the power or engine size that M40i does. In its defense, my wife does a lot more city driving than I do.
