BMW Updated WLTP Fuel consumption figures UK
Latest Jan 2019 UK price list shows the new updated Fuel consumption figures now fully based on WLTP tests rather than converting back to the old system
Seems like there is also a £1000 price increase on M40's |

Yes M40's have gone up by £970 apparently, but deposit contributions going up, although apparently GMFV is going down so will probably be more expensive per month than last quarter.

I took delivery of my new BMW X3 G01 30d M Sport in February 2018 and have never zeroed the average fuel consumption; it now shows 37.7 (UK) mpg (after 13,500 miles), which is the middle of the combined fuel consumption shown in the OP's table 36.7-38.7). Previously the BMW combined fuel consumption for my car was listed as 46.3–49.6 (UK) mpg; consequently it would appear that the WLTP is producing much more realistic figures than the earlier test.

Looking at those figures, my decision to buy a M Sport 3.0d as I didn't think there was that much between them looks to be the right one - and a good balance between power and economy.
There's on 12,000 on the clock, so it ought to improve as the engine loosens. |

Finally - some data that can actually map to real world. TFFT.
For my m40d looks pretty bang on, it's tapering out at about 35.3 at the moment. My driving style didn't change from the 35d I had where I was getting 32.1. Maybe it's the lack of privacy glass making less weight ;-) . Not that I keep banging on about missing that bloody option or anything :-/ |

It does look like the new WLTP are pretty good!
My average in a 40i after just over 1k is 25.1, so close!! The old figures had got ridiculous though!! In previous petrol cars, I used to be able to get the published "combined" figure if I did a reasonable run, without trying to drive economically. So although the actual combined figure was lower, I knew what to expect on a reasonable journey. The original "Combined" figure for the 40i was around 34mpg!! I know mine is still new and it's winter, but driving in the same style, I'll get around 29mpg ........ then I hear that sweet straight 6 sound and it all goes down!!! So it's good the new tests are more acurate

I had a couple of E87s with and without S/S, the one with was supposed to do 10mpg more than my previous one but it achieved exactly the same The M40i mpg first dropped from 34 to 31 when the GPF was added under the old system |

Fuelly shows that I'm averaging 28.7 UK MPG in my 40i after 4500 miles, and that's mainly on a 9 miles each way commute.

Just to add to my last... I drove up to Poulton-le-Fylde from Woodford yesterday and over the 230 mile journey averaged 42.4 mpg (3 adults + luggage). Traffic was quite heavy (usual) but it kept flowing! It wasn’t a fast journey, due to the weight of traffic, and my average speed, on the motorway, was just going with the flow - about 65 mph. There were a fewer faster parts, but also some slower ones too. Still, pretty good fuel figures for a 3.0 litre 326bhp SUV with passengers and luggage. My old 335d xdrive Touring wouldn’t have done much better than that in the same conditions, not to mention the extra noise and lack of refinement in comparison... but that’s another story.

How many miles have you done? Has it got better as the miles have built up? As I said earlier, I'd have probably got around 30-31 on that run????

My model is a pre-GPF version which supposedly have 10% better mpg so we're probably not too far away? |

I don't want to open the normal/premium fuel debate, but I've run mine on normal Shell so far. I've just put some Shell V power in and will next time to see if I notice any difference?? Performance and mpg?? My previous Audi S4 just about gained enough mpg to cover the extra cost, but the price gap between the 2 was smaller then!! I'll post my result!!

BMW do recommend use of 95 Ron on M40i although no harm using a higher grade but don't think it will make any difference as car has been tuned to use 95 I think Audi would recommend 98 RON for the S4? if you drop down to a lower grade than car is tuned for you would probably notice a difference then |
