Basic Question from a newb
Hello all,
Just wondering about something before I go hunting in search of my first X3. I'm looking to get an N52 motor variant, which as far as I know means I'm limited to 2010-2012. But! There are two models (the 28 and the 35) obviously. My question is: Was it possible (at the time of original purchase) to get the good options from the 35 on a 28 model with the N52 motor? I love the look and options of the 35's, but don't want the N55. Looking for the best I can get with the lower level motor (AWD is a must). Thanks Last edited by Rising_Wave; 01-19-2023 at 01:20 PM.. |

So then.... could an original buyer have ordered a 28i with most or all of the options of a 35i? If not, which ones were/weren't available? Also, were there any changes made between 2010-2012 in the X3's? I promise this should be the last of my annoying questions.

As you are aware, the 35ix got a number of the most desirable options as standard. This ordering guide for 2012 should help you sort out what you want.
The only option I would consider a must have is the adaptive HID lighting; option codes 522 and 524. A site like https://www.mdecoder.com/ can help you look up the factory options from the VIN. 2012_X3_MSRP_and_Equipment_Jan_2012.pdf

Welcome to the forum...
I too was seeking a 28i (2011-2012) specifically for the N52. Unfortunately, every one in acceptable condition did not have Bi-Xenon headlights, but rather Halogen, which IMHO are a joke. I drive many dark country roads so need the best lighting available. I ended up finding a pretty loaded garage queen 35i with the DHP and couldn't pass it up. I have no regrets with the 35i and would make the same selection if I had to do it over. BTW, Xenon is standard on the 35i but an option on the 28i. Replacing the Halogen headlights with Bi-Xenon is not trivial nor inexpensive. |

Yes, it was possible for a buyer to order the 28i with all the options available for the 35i.
The 35i just had some of those options standard. 28i started out very bare bones. It would be very tough to find a 28i with all the options available equipped. You'd be looking for a unicorn if you're looking for one with low miles. Easier to find a 35i with all the good options since some of those were already standard. Search for the X3 ordering guide to know what was available. This is what I did in my search for one before I gave up. |
