X3M - Engine Update/Quality Improvement

Just got a call from my local BMW dealership who said they want my X3M back as BMW have just pushed out a new update (Engine Quality Improvement) for the car - they didn't have the specifics of the update on hand - so asked for more details.

It's booked in for tomorrow - but curious if anyone has had this done yet?

I ‘think’ I had this update last week when I had the RIS done. All I know is they did a software update that took all day to complete but the service representative could not explain what the update was...

Yeah - I had one too which I assume was related to the same update those whose cars were on a release hold had too. Hopefully not another one.

Yep can confirm my car was delayed for a week whilst they tried to install it bmw didn't want it going on the road without it. Took them a good few goes and they left it overnight a few times and had to check with bmw Uk on the failures.
What it contained I don't know either sorry

I'd be this has to do with the stop release, just re-worded to sound a bit friendlier, because, at some point, every car will need this update.

I have just booked my RIS today for a couple of weeks time and I asked and was told the RIS and health check will take about 2 hours, there is no ECU update required as it was done as a delivery stop campaign prior to collection.

Should I correctly assume my new X3MC, which just began production last week (estimated completion date, 1/23) should have all the updates upon delivery?

I would think so. When we picked up my wife's X3MC last month I asked our Svc Advisor about any updates and was told they did it before they let us have it. Probably wouldn't hurt to touch base with your Dealership's Advisor to give them a heads-up to be sure any US updates aren't needed (I never know what is UK-or overseas-dependent updates vs universal). If it is being produced now, though, you would sure think it would be done at the factory but never hurts to ask.

i brought my car in for my RIS in late december. service advisor told me abt the software updates they needed to do, but would require a separate appt since it was an all day thing. I have it scheduled for 1/31. they even recommended requesting a loaner since it "Takes all day" no other details tho

Why does it take all day to perform a software update?

No idea. Mine took over 5 hrs. Could be upload speed, data amount and the engineer drinking many cups of tea. 🤔

Had this done today too. Took about one hour. Didn't say much. The only thing I observed was my radio presets were blank but my seat and mirror memory worked.

It's the same update/fix that caused the stop sale about 5 weeks ago, so if your car had been released and had also had the RIS, then they will issue the request to update.

Mine was released a day before the stop sale so the update got done last week during the RIS.

It's oxygen sensor related but a software fix.

I'm at the shop as we speak Tenafly bmw doing my RIS at 1440 miles Bc bayside bmw ran out of fluids for RIS 2 weeks ago. They just told me we have a software update and will take 5 hours I said I'm sorry I'm just here for the RIS. I'll have to reschedule I guess.
