That is the pits.... No leaks here after 58K. Not heard of anyone else having one actually in an F97/98. You've probably already done this, but I would clean and degrease all of that. Then put a good day of driving in, let it sit overnight and then look again in the morning.
On a side note.....My old f06 N63TU was an oil leaking machine.... After 40k the leaks started and then about every 10K (miles) I'd degrease and search out the new leaks that would sprout up. I had gaskets, vacuum lines etc. The only worse leaker I've ever owned was my daughter's 2009 R56 mini.... That little beauty sprung a new leak almost as often and I had to replace coils...... |

An oil leak on a BMW? SHocked...lol
Alright sorry, but I had to. As poster above mentioned, clean the area and then re-inspect or fill with liquimoly molygen oil and check with a blacklight. Unfortunately leaks are not uncommon, they just go unnoticed as its seeping onto the undercovers. Common s58 leak areas include oil filter housing, valve covers, and timing covers. |

The B58 is starting to behave the way older models leaked and I wouldn't expect the s58 to be any different as the use of plastic parts persists and the platform ages. |

Hopefully this is not a sign of things to come, i have bad memories with my N54. My N55 and B58 were both "leak" free so i'm hoping for the same on this thing, cross our fingers this is not an "itis".

Can you see where the oil is leaking from or can it be residual from possibly the oil filter housing?
When I go in for an oil change I have to come home and clean under my X3m. The dealers no longer take pride in wiping down any residual oil from runoff or spillage. |

Took to the dealer few days ago, they do not know…. They said something
Leak came out from transfer case and may need to replace transfer case and transmission….. Car will go back in to dealer again for 1 week for repair. Car is still under warranty. But I’m very worried after they remove many parts they can break some thing else. Not happy……….. |

They found all this oil leaking, which appears to be a significant leak, but then could not find the leak. Then the dealer mentioned the leak is coming from the transfer case ??? They then said they may need to replace the Transfer case and the Transmission and then they sent you home with it? I'm sorry, something about this just seems off. You may have the world's worst dealer service department. |

I have to go back to dealer again, then they will keep the car for the repair for 1 to 2 weeks. Dealer said BMW usually ask to replace the entire unit if they can not find where the leak is. |
