Not quite. I understand the logic, but we are talking about an SUV. The M2 you track, you take it to the strip, etc. But An X3M draws very little incentive over an already very capable X3 M40i.

So again, what pushes anyone to consider an X3M over an X3 M40i. It's a very straight forward question.
Some will buy cuz it's the top of the line vehicle in that model, some will buy for prestige/bragging rights, and some will buy cuz it's the most sport capable iteration.
Your "question" is pretty self evident with a look at history. Plus, your supposition that the m40i is as capable as one needs for street use can be used ad nauseum to bolster any argument past a Prius or Leaf. Which is a trollish position, imo.
Lots of people wanna have fun in their cars- go figure. And lots of people look for ways to spend their money as well.
It's fine if you feel the X3M is redundant and excessive, but lots of people are going to disagree with you and covet and buy them anyway.
You'll probably have more positive feedback to your position in the X3 forum.... not the X3M one.

The M2 is definitely a step above the M235/240i
The X3 is definitely one of the best cars I've ever driven when it comes to driving dynamics and overalls diverse capabilities.

You’re not bashing the car yet you’re calling it marketing stunt before any reviews/test drives are even out? If that’s not bashing, I don’t know what is.

If there’s any marketing going on, it’s on the M40i. It’s nothing more than a X3 with B58 engine and M Sport package.

BMW ///M GmbH is currently being diluted regardless of the overall intent.

I am not exactly sure what ///M is anymore.

Less is actually more.

I went from a 2018 X3 M40i to a 2018 X5M bc I foolishly decided to test drive the X5M.
Still have the M3 (and the dog)

What's the reason of choosing an X3M over an X3 M40i?
Same reason you choose an X3 M40i over the entry spec.

I'd recommend driving an X5 50i M-Sport with DHP (phew that's long) and an X5M back to back. The former is essentially the M-Performance vehicle w/in the F15 class (key is adding DHP, gives you the diff, active roll stabilization, etc.).

You'll get it.

I kinda wish the X3M had more curves/fender flare on the rear section a la M3 or the Porsche Cayman. This just looks like a regular 3 series to me. I would appreciate a slightly more aggressive stance.

How a solid aero roof might look - the G01 already has a rear aero channel which could extend forward absent the moonroof. Roof from Miko’s 2018 M5.

I wish they develop M3 Touring instead. I don't get that hype about SUVs really. I know it's fast etc but I see no point of buying M SUV if could have a Touring version with the same luggage size, better agility and driving dynamics. Am I too old-fashioned?
