Just to clarify, below is the dim and simple display you get when you don't give BMW an extra $900 for the should-be-standard Live Cockpit Pro, and the km/hr speedo that displays when you change the units to km. Would like digital display in mph.

Generally spealing, you can't to code something that the hardware does not support. In this case, it looks like supply chain challenges means your car was not delivered with the necessary hardware. Yours KIND OF looks like the X3M gauge cluster which has a digital speedo, but it's not quite the same. Have you tried cycling through the display options for the center portion?

This apparently was possible prior to 2022, just want to be sure before buying bimmercode and dongle. The center display only shows mpg, media or nav info OR km/hr when selected.

That makes no sense to me. Admittedly, I have no experience with the non-digital dash but if this is a US car why would it show miles per gallon but kilometers per hour?

I think what might confirm if bimmercode could work is if any of our Canadian or Euro members with a 2022 model and standard dash (like mine) but a km/hr speedometer dial could try selecting miles for distance units and see if their display shows digital mph?

In previous models you could add with Bimmercode to the board computer an additional page with digital speedometer, so maybe you can do that as well in 2022 models.

When my then NEW 2020 X3 30i w/the standard non-digital instruments (physical needles for tach, engine temp, fuel and speedo) there was no digital exact speed readout. I went back to the dealer and asked why there was no way of determining "exact speed" because the tick marks on the speedo made it near impossible to figure out exactly how fast I was traveling. I've never seen such lack of info on a car's instrument panel.
Low and behold they told me to bring the car back for service. One hour later the instrument panel now shows the exact digital speed between the speedo and tach. Below is a picture of my finished "standard" instrument panel on my car after they added the digital "exact" speed readout. |
