X4 M40i question on High RPM lag after WOT...

I tried researching but couldn't find a specific answer.

My car has about 8k miles on it. I got a JB+ tune on it right now but this was happening even before the tune.

What happens is, is when i hit the gas and go into wide open throttle and go fast and then i let go of the gas, the RPMs still stay high and rev over 4-5k rpm's. The rpm's rev high like that for about 5 or more seconds then start returning to normal. Kind of seems like when i go WOT, it does not shift down fast enough once i let go of the gas and keeps revving very high. The car is an automatic. It drives fine otherwise and this revving and high rpm's only occurs after WOTs and no problems at idle.

Is there too much boost built up after a WOT so it hangs? Would a BOV solve this issue. Or is this a common thing on turbo cars?

This is normal but this reaction can be affected by the jb+ which is throwing extra boost and the car doesn't know what exactly to do. The car is being tricked to thinking otherwise and while this is a easy way to increase some slight performance this eventually confuses the car and you wont have a smooth or OEM like drivability. Been there done that

So then a blow off valve may help to releive this extra boost pressure built up. When i let go of the gas, the throttle closes and the boost pressure has nowhere to go, other than back towards to turbos, therefore the revs stay high. Will try that and see if it fixes the issue

Not sure on the BOV to be honest, nor would I bother with that. The car will cut throttle because jb+ is adding something but the car is seeing something else, it will be a constant battle this is why software will run better. The boost you're adding could also be restrictive due to not enough octane being provided to meet or heatsoak. I've see OEM map not having 100% Throttle Open throughout many models of BMW. This is fixed with Bootmod3 for ex.

A Catless Downpipe will definitely allow for more flow as well.

I am no expert in this area, but my non-modified X4 M40i does the same thing. I believe it is normal behavior. I think the car keeps the rev high for a few seconds in anticipation that you are going to stump on it again. Anyway, my answer or work-around is "that's why we have paddle shifters."

I am starting to think it is a normal thing as well. Anyway, i found out that you can't put a BOV on an N55 engine, so thats out of the question.
