Over here we only do things we can accomplish while texting, so the auto parking function is necessary for every American driver.

However, if I understand correctly, it is supposed to be an internal manufacturer document and not generally available for a regular consumer. Obviously when you know what are you looking for, it is easy to "google" it. But as an average buyer, I have a few references to rely on: bmwusa.com ordering "Build you own" as well as 2020 X3 Owner's Manual. Both clearly illustrate this feature as available. (see attached). Thank you for educating me about Ordering Guide, but I am don't see how this any if my or any other confused buyer fault. Thank you. Last edited by generadom; 10-16-2019 at 03:40 PM.. |

I too was disappointed that this feature (back-up assistant) was not part of the parking assistant plus package on my 2020 X3 since it did not appear in the display and I even got the live cockpit, thinking it would also have the driving assistant view in the middle of the instrument display. I got my 2020 X3 in Mar 2020, hoping it would have the updated features as the 330i and X5, with the same sensors and cameras, but still hoping an over-the-air update may include it. If there was coding available to "turn" these on, that would be great.

Spent the morning comparing features that my wife’s loaded 2020 X5 has and My loaded 2021 X3 m40i does not. As stated no back up assistant, no active driving assistant for the middle of the screen (showing car all the time) I guess this is what is meant by not having the full iDrive7? These two were part of my expectations and are misleading in the configuration screens on the BMW site.

When I first read the title of this post (Backup Assistant) I thought maybe it was about another feature of "assisted" backing up that my 2017 Prius has but I haven't observed in my '21 X3 yet. That is when, for example, you are backing out of a parking spot and unable to clearly see vehicles that may be approaching from the left or right, and the car sounds the warning in your ears so you don't keep backing up. I haven't seen that in action in my X3 and I think I have been in that situation.

I can see that in the USA English Users Manual on Pg 182, but the image shown under General Information implies that it is used for rear collisions coming from directly behind, not vehicles approaching at a 90 degree angle from the rear bumper.

I have had the rear warning go off due to crossing traffic, it is helpful. As for your driveway issue, no need to de-activate the system as you did, simply hit the hill descent button and it will stop the PDC braking as I recall. Once out of your driveway, turn off the hill descent feature and the PDC systems will re-activate. Living in an area which is completely flat I have never had this issue!
