Chassis fault. Drive moderately. Help!!
Hi all we have a 2014 X3 30d that we have brought second hand from a stealer. Car is lovely with a great spec including adaptive suspension.
I will keep this as short as poss Problem is we had a error come up on the idrive and the instrument cluster saying chassis fault, which meant I can not use any of the driving mode as was stuck in comfort mode and the suspicion is harsh and very crash. Booked in with bmw specialist who is well known and even though when I took the car to him and fault was displayed on the idrive he couldn’t find anything when he ran a diagnosis check. I then had to rebook with him as he said he needed to check individual components to trace problem. He eventually found the fault and said the VDC1 unit was at fault caused by water damage. It got replaced and was fine for a few days, now the fault has reappeared. I have checked the area where the vdc1 is located and the area is clean, dry even dusty so I know it’s not water getting in. What else could be causing this fault?? I thought maybe a faulty sensor but the specialist said no and I have no way of checking myself. Can someone help as it is a nightmare to drive with this fault to put it lightly. |

No, you would need someone to scan it with OBD scanner. Autozone will do it free of charge, ask them to print the codes and report back.

DCT. Description 482881. VDM undervoltage. 482A28. Valve coil - rear left - short circuit terminal 15 / terminal 30. 482A2A. Valve coil - rear left - open circuit. 482A2F. Valve coil - rear right - short circuit, valve. 482A38. Valve coil - rear left - current regulator plausibility error. The specialist cleared all faults, but the undervoltage came straight back and is the cause for the chassis fault. He seems to think the VDC1 module is at fault, but my understanding is there is something causing the undervoltage i.e by the looks of it the rear left sensor. What are your thoughts guys?? |

Hi,
I found this thread since I'm struggling with the same issue with my F25. I had the same issue couple months ago and the dealer replaced the VDC1-unit. Problem was solved and everything was ok until now. Now I got again the failure of the Dynamic Damping System. You can drive the car normally but the error message is blinking after every 10 seconds. I've also the Foxwell reader and I got the error codes: ICM - Integrated Chassis Management D016F2 No message (display. Check Control driving dynamics 03.218.13.32), receiver ICM, transmitter EDC D0193C No message (predefined damper passive component 72.1.2), reveiver ICM, transmitter EDC VDM2 - Vertical dynamics management 482881 EDC: Undervoltage 482882 EDC: Undervoltage 482A21 EDC: Valve coil - front left - short circuit, terminal 31 482A28 EDC: Valve coil - rear left - short circuit, terminal 15/terminal 30 482A2A EDC: Valve coil - rear left - open circuit 482884 EDC: Overvoltage 482A34 EDC: valve coil - front right - current controller plausibility fault 482A38 EDC: valve coil - rear left - current regulator plausibility fault 482A3C EDC: Valve coil - rear right - current regulator plausibility fault I took also some values from the sensors, VDM sensor 1 voltage: 2,49V (non-linearised value) VDM sensor 2 voltage: 2,48V (non-linearised value) VDM sensor 1 voltage: 5V (sensor value) VDM sensor 2 voltage: 4,97V (sensor value) Voltage terminal 15N: 12,2V (engine off), 15,1V (engine on) Voltage terminal 30: 1,7V (engine off), 13,1V (engine on) Values for VDM damper valves seems to be ok, expect front left: Valve short circuit after KL31. No idea where to look the root cause for these EDC problems. It seems that something is causing this problem and local BMW dealer is only proposing to replace the VDC unit. Yes, it Works but only couple of months |

If you're out of warranty, I have a VDC I can sell to you that will be significantly cheaper than one BMW will charge you for.
