Drive the X3 or 328ix in crappy winter weather?
For long rides I'd take the new X3 but short around the town chores in sloppy snow thinking of using the old car more in case someone crashes into me. Why risk the >$60K car when <$9K will get the job done without roughing it too much.
Both will have dedicated snow tires and are x-drive models. Sure the new vehicle has updated tech and higher ground clearance. Would you leave the new expensive car in the garage and take the depreciated Beemer instead? |

I think it really depends on the depth of the snow. Since you're in Ohio, the roads get plowed relatively quickly and unless you're on the east side of Cleveland, I'm guessing you're not getting feet of snow at once. That said, I'd take out the 328ix unless it's just unusually deep. Are both automatic transmission?

Yes, automatic transmissions. Thankfully no lake effect snow!

Cool - yeah, I spent 10 years in Columbus prior to moving out to Denver, and other than a few instances, the snow depth was pretty manageable there...at least very few situations where my F30/F33s couldn't handle it.
The only other substantial benefit (other than the safety features) to the X3 is having ECO PRO mode to deaden the throttle. I also use ECO PRO with Traction mode in heavier snow, which prevents the tendency to spin the wheels when starting from a complete stop. Hope that helps.

I buy cars to enjoy driving them, not to admire them being kept safe in the garage.
My vote is for the X3 for all conditions, and simply adjust how you drive to match the conditions and stay safe (not to suggest you're not doing that already). |

The 328i is no speedster but is fun in it's own way. That steering is incredibly responsive. It's a joy to toss around. I'll mix it up for variety. Thanks! |
