How to get online Quotes from Dealers?

HI There

I went to a dealer, and the cars that show in their stock online were not available (even though their online inventory showed 3-4). From there on it seemed like they didnt have incentive to sell a car in transit or were simply not interested, as they didnt come to negotiation and just gave me the first quote.

Before visiting the next dealer, I want to know how can I get online quotes from dealers if they have cars in stock? That way I would know that they are interested to sell.
Thanks in advance!

Look at their websites and find the listing for "Staff" or "Team". Look for the Web/Online Sales Manager. If none, just find the General Sales Manager. Get a few of them and write an email putting their addresses in the :bcc line so they don't see each other. Explain your interest, include your exact build from the BMW configuration tool, and ask for their quote. Or, approach one dealer at at time with reference to their stock number of interest if you are intent on buying from inventory. Some will reply, some won't, especially if over a state line, but from where you are, I would include NY/NJ area dealers. Using this technique with 5 dealers in three states, I had the last two bidding around 7-8% off MSRP in 2023 while my local dealer stopped at 2%. The BMWFS $2k incentive then was added on top. Good deal.

It’s largely going to depend on the dealer. If they don’t want to play ball and work with you remotely you’re shit out of luck. I just purchased mine a month or so ago entirely via phone and email. I actually had a harder time trying to buy from my local
Dealer in person. They kept selling cars out from under me. M40s are selling right off the truck for some dealers.

Just broaden your search, email dealers a little far away. M40i will be selling more and if they stop new orders you will soon be in tight spot because most people don't want to get the new iDrive. This is why they name the new one m50i so they can fool people into thinking it's so much better than m40i and maybe then they won't mind the new iDrive.

"interested to sell?" Of course they are. They may not be willing to negotiate, but they exist for the purpose of selling.

My suggestions:
1. Use car buying service like Costco or KBB to see what a baseline cost would be
2. Tell them the specific build you want and give them an offer. Maybe start with ~10% below MSRP but understand you might only get 5-7% or so (or whatever others seem to be getting here)
3. If you get someone to agree to an offer, get it in writing then ship it.

Whole key in my experience is establishing some legitimate baseline, which is why I’ve used Costco auto program to get a price point to work with.

This is spot on. My current 2023 I purchased in CT and I live in Virginia. All basically done via email and phone calls, to include my trade-in negotiation which I drove up to get my 2023

I had to go out of state as well. Forgot to mention that. I’m in RI and bought in Ma. It was also end of month.

I've purchased my last few cars long distance. Once the deal is agreed I put a down payment and then fly out to get my car and finalize paperwork.
Here's the key. Don't ask them for a quote. Do your research and offer a fair price for the vehicle. Let them decide if they can meet that price or not. Don't call them and ask for a ridiculous discount because it's not going to happen. I usually find out what the model I want is selling for and shoot about $1,000 under. I say it's to offset the plane ticket and mileage driving it back. Never, never, buy a vehicle before you've looked at it, put hands on it, and inspected it.
The dealerships that have a lot of long distance buyers usually will pick you up from the airport and bring you to the hotel or dealership.

FWIW, i would also get quote(s) from BMW specialist auto broker(s) for a/b comparisons, they usually have larger radius of dealerships in contact with, to see what neighboring dealerships are discounting for.

I just purchased an X4 and picked it up this past week. I tried going local and via the internet but could not get anywhere. I contacted a broker and paid $699, and I was able to order an X4, and I picked it up less than 4 weeks later. The pricing I got from the few dealers who quoted me was MSRP, and there was no discount. I received a total of 8K off my ordered X4. Super happy with my deal.
