Sell 2021 now or wait?
I bought my 21 X3Mc about 3 months ago, unbeknownst to me at the time was the impending LCI. With all of the improvements to the LCI, it's kind of sucked the life out of my enjoyment of the 21 so I'm debating on selling now or trading in once the 22 comes out.
Would it be smart to sell now and pick up a 22 later? Or should I just hold tight and trade when they come out? I only have about 900 miles on mine and can pretty much sell it without much of a loss. |

Probably sell now since the the used car resell value is at an all time hight.. what all improvements are on the LCI that would make you sell it tho?

People get caught up chasing the dragon. I assume that once the LCI is readily available as the market normalizes, the new version will be right around the corner.
The better way to look at things is by looking at what you currently have and how long will you be satisfied. In my case, as a kid-runner and a DD, the current F97 is a perfect fit. My eyes are more set on a GT3 in the long run. The more I avoid blowing money jumping from DD to DD, the closer I get to a garage queen. Also as a side note, any TQ increase are likely paper numbers because the F97 and G80/2 put down similar numbers on the Dyno already. |

I would at least wait for the gosh darn thing to be released officially before making any sudden moves. So far we have some spy shots and a teaser video and folks are ready to set their 21's on fire over an updated shifter :
That being said, if you truly just can't bare to live with your old clunker of a 21, you're in luck at least in regards to recouping max value. But keep in mind that it might be quite a while before BMW can actually build and deliver any '22 models. |

Yeah, MY22 factory deliveries are at least 4+ months out, likely more due to chip shortage. I have dashcam installed and everything, so what a waste of time and money switching from my MY21 would be, especially when I don't even like the look of the new front.
I continue to be happy with what I got. |

Keep and enjoy what you have. It looks like the 2022 will have weird front bumper styling.
Also, the hit won't be minimal between what you just paid in registration and taxes on your 2021 and then paying it again on the 2022.

I ordered my 21 the way I wanted it in March and picked it up in April. I'll be keeping it as long as snowplows stay away. It's such an awesome vehicle!

You actually own the license plates. So you can transfer the plates to another car. Also if you trade the vehicle into a dealership for another car, you only pay the sales tax on the difference in price between the trade and the new car, not on the entire new car price. |

I can’t fathom how the lci would suck the enjoyment out of your new X3M. They are very similar. I generally upgrade to the latest and greatest across many of my belongings, but I really don’t have an itch this time. I’m not saying the new one isn’t better, but I took a long hard look at both front fascias and the pre lci looks so much better (IMO, realize this is subjective).

I'm far past that already. I bought the first of a MYX when they even released a MYX V2 due to issues with the initial MY release with improved parts for the same MY. Luckily BMW bought back my car and set me up with something better... Hence the other BMW I own is the last of a year model...

Well, that is a pretty tricky situation from my point of view. I mean, in case you do not sell it right now, the price for this car will drop pretty dramatically until the next year, however in case you sell it right now, you still need a car untill the 2022 model drops in. I do not know what I would do in your situation however, I guess selling it is still the best option. What I really hate about these new models, in a couple of years it becomes a Junk Car, because of all those new technologies that are not yet updated to the right stage, and their prices are ... dropping incredibly, to say the least.

You will need to figure:
*How much can you get for your 21 *How much money did you lose (payout for the 21 less payoff, all payments and anything paid up front such as down payment) * What will it cost to fill the transportation gap from selling the 21 to taking delivery of the 22 * What is the realistic cost of the 22, if financing or leasing, how much worse will rates look like? After all this, is the move to a 22 worth the cost? Will a move from a 22 to 23 be worth the cost? You may want to revisit how you purchase vehicles if you are looking at short turn around times. |
