You had 2 indy shops say they would not work on an engine? Weird. Anyway, that flaw was what I was referring to above. I assumed pretty much everybody knows about that by now. There are many threads about it. You need to Google the video about how to do the job. There is at least one that is excellent. It is an ambitious but DIYable project. But you need to rent or buy special tools. It's not just a matter of marking your camshafts - there is a tool you need to hold them in place. Watch the video[s] and then decide if it's a job for you.

And this issue would not cause anything to be inside the cylinders or affect compression. It's really an oil starvation issue down below.
