Coincidentally, was on my way to the BMW service department when my x3 shifted itself into neutral and wouldn't accelerate.
I had just passed a car and was at the base of a mountain and went to press on the gas to accelerate up the mountain. When I pressed on the gas pedal nothing happened, I pressed again and again nothing happened. Panicked ensued and I was starting to lose momentum while trying to go up a mountain. After the third time of pressing on the gas pedal and realizing nothing was happening, I looked down and realized I was in neutral. Every time I pressed on the gas, the engine did not rev to indicate I was in neutral. I was able to pull off to the side of the highway out of traffic. And pressed the park button. Had my foot on the brake and pressed the ignition button. If I remember correctly, it said the engine was not turned off? Maybe it didn't even say that at all. I pushed the button again and nothing happened. The power was all on. But the car did not start. When I pushed the button it clicked as if it wanted to turn on and then the check engine light was on. I popped the hood, and then got an alert that it was hot. We sat there for 3 hours as we had no cell service. And bmw is 2 hours away. My house was closer. So there's where it was towed to. Does anyone know what this could be? Is it a known issue. I want to say I was previously going 65-70mph prior to not being able to accelerate. It all happened to suddenly and BMW was absolutely no help. ETA- only 108,800 miles and fresh oil change, brake fluid and hvac filters. |
