Deer hit. Do you guys think it is totaled? All side curtain airbags deployed. Doesn't look like the engine was harmed and no fluids lost. The driver door is also damaged.

2016 X3 xLine. 79,000 miles. Was going to be paid off next week!

OUCH! - assuming everyone is OK!

good that no fluids are leaking out
but potential for structure damage anytime the airbags deploy

probably should start shopping...
(and sorry)

Had my prior SUV hit in the rear-right side by a red-light running car with side curtain airbags deployed. It was totaled despite no damage to the engine. Was told by a cop that most cars are totaled if airbags are deployed.

Given the age, mileage and other's comments about the implication of the air bag deployment I think your machine is totaled. Sorry for that and, as others have voice, hope that no one was injured.

If it is totaled, and you have the chance, you should grab that black grille. You could probably sell that here for enough to cover your down payment on the replacement. Heck, the surviving rims are probably worth another sizeable chunk of change.

Great idea. It was pristine - PPF, ceramic coat, new brakes, etc.

Appreciate the input.

This sucks, and I'm sorry about it. Do let us know if it indeed was totaled.

Warning: dumb question coming. Do insurance companies typically let you cherry pick parts off a vehicle that they have deemed totalled?

No, they will recoup some of their losses by selling any totaled car at auction.

Years ago when I owned a MINI Cooper S and it was totaled, the insurance company let me take the exhaust and a few other items, but I had the OE items to leave with the car. I paid the body shop to remove the items but insurance didn't require the OE parts be reinstalled.

Sorry for your car. Hope you know, you're in the G forum, not F.

I usually hang in the M2 forum - oops! Does it matter if I owned an M40i this summer?

Actually, the insurance company doesn't own the car - you do. Depending you your state, you may be able to retain the vehicle after the insurance payout. If you want to retain the vehicle, ask what you need to do but don't sign a release until you've checked out your legal rights - to your properly.

OP- sorry for your bad luck but assuming your insurance company totals you out you now get to go car shopping! What’s on your short list for replacements? Will you get another X3?

The air bags are fully deployed, and with the level of structural damage, it is totaled.
