Shaking when Turning at Low Speed
Anybody had the same experience?
Everytime I steer left or right at low speed (15km/h or less), it starts shaking and makes a chugging sound. I took it to a mechanic but were not capable to diagnose BMW's fully so they suggest I take it to the dealership (which I don't want to). There seems to be some kind of misfiring but not sure why. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thanks! |

It was the O2 Sensor. I got an aftermarket one that made it worse. Ended up getting the BMW one (I believe the Bosch one is now available too). There will be a code for it if the check engine light came on. But it could be a multitude of things, such as an intake leak (cracked valve cover for example), or low battery. |

If it's the engine, and only in a corner... that's pretty odd. Inertia of some fluid moving to the side? And not enough of it? I can't think of any engine related electrical wires being stretched (like you'd have if say ABS lines didn't go back on correctly). |

It seems very odd why the engine shakes/chugs only while turning.
I agree with tracer bullet, seems something stuck in the Xdrive and transmitting into the engine/steering. |

Perhaps its a steering rack issue. I had a similar problem when I would turn the wheel to the right or left and it would make a blood curling noise and the engine would rev up and down all over the place. Got the steering rack replaced at BMW and no sight of the issue again.

Oh well, I guess I might as well check with the dealership and hope it's not going to cost me an arm and a leg. Thanks everyone! |

Rattled my brain at first too. They said (BMW) that it was fluctuating in power draw causing the engine to rev up to compensate for the excess draw.

Mine seems to be kinda acting funny around slow corners too. It feels like something is binding up in the rear end or transfer case. Going to bring it to a shop likely and have them take a look since its under warranty.

So I got the car back and as suspected it's the transfer case fault. They quoted me at least $8000 (Cdn) for the part alone
So now I'm looking into a shop to find the best deal! Also, it's kinda upsetting that my car did not have engine light fault on but the dealership said after diagnostics, they found a fault on an intake pressure sensor...and now my check engine light is on!...does that sound right? Anyway, hoping I can get this fixed more economically or might as well get something new(er)! |

Sometimes they cause the "drivetrain malfunction" message on iDrive, and go away. I'm surprised you have issues with the transfer case, are all tires the same dimensions? |

Because I believe this sensor gives an error of "implausible intake pressure" which could indicate something else (in my case first it was the valve cover being cracked, leaking), and then the turbo. The sensor would be the cheapest fix for sure, but curious about the code it actually generated. I believe it will be in your service order. |
