this is why always protect your paint with some sealant and/or ceramic coatings.
Best way to repair at this point would be wet sanding + light compound/polishing. |

I have always had good luck using "Meguiar’s Water Spot Remover – Water Stain Remover and Polish for All Hard Surfaces" for anything that is difficult to remove from my paint.
https://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-A371.../dp/B009OBVS2K I always just use Optimum Car Wax to help protect my cars and have had good luck with it too. https://www.amazon.com/Optimum-SW200.../dp/B00GG9FI8I |

Have you tried using a clay bar?

Probably looking at a 1 stage machine polish. If you don't want a full ceramic detail you could just give the whole car a hand polish and ceramic wax like angle wax enigma.

The Protect X system is much maligned and I agree it is usually overpriced and does not provide anywhere near the protection a ceramic or similar coating will provide BUT, the fact you had Protect X applied to you car should allow you now to tap into the benefit it DOES provide over after market applications - namely the 'insurance / guarantee' element. When I had bird poo attack the clearcoat on my last X3, (when I left it in an airport carpark whilst on holiday for 2 weeks) I took it straight into my local dealer and they honoured the Protect X protection promise and completely fixed the damage to 'as new' F.O.C. Certainly worth exploring this route 1st I would suggest.

Not a stain -- it etched the clear coat. I just had this happen to my X3 and it happened in a matter of hours. Car was clean at lunch. At quitting time I came out, saw the mess and wiped it off, but the damage was done.
I was able to buff it to my satisfaction with 3M scratch remover, which is a polishing compound that is about a "4" on the scale of aggressiveness. Use a foam pad and do it by hand. You can make multiple applications of this until the etching is polished out to your satisfaction, and don't be afraid to put some pressure into it. I followed that up with #3 and #1 Meguiars polish then re-waxed the area with Klasse. BTW, even the best ceramic coatings can't prevent this damage, although they might buy you an extra hour. No reputable product will claim to prevent damage from bird drippings (if they do, laugh and look elsewhere). Bird droppings are highly acidic and can pretty much burn through any protective layer. |

I feel your pain!
On Monday this week, I came out to my Carbon Black G01 to see 6 giant bird drops on the hood. I rushed home and immediately washed it. Unfortunately, the paint was etched in 6 spots, identically to your photo above. I’ll have to use my Porter Cable orbital polisher to remove them, but even that may not completely take them out. I normally would use an orange pad on these, anyone want to recommend an appropriate level of cut compound? |

Good luck, I had the same on my M4 a few years back, I literally washed it off the night it happened but it baked in the day in the sun. I have some emergency wipes now at hand in the car.

For the fear of this happening, I keep a bottle of Meguiar's Ultimate Waterless Wash & Wax and two microfiber towels in my trunk.

Perhaps there is difference of kind of poop and time that its baked in under sun at certain climate/weather. So far i was able to, not yet on X3 (Carbon Black), on other cars (blue water metallic, mystic blue metallic) loosen up the poop's, and wipe them off completely (again, using Griot's Speed Shine wipes). Perhaps what i was overlooking was whether there was any damage already done underneath. |

Kind of hoping the slickness would help avoid this... https://ceramicpro.com/aftercare/ Ceramic Pro is extremely slick, this means most things will dissolve and be pulled off by Ceramic Pro’s self-cleaning effect. Minimizing rubbing, (especially with a dry towel) on the coating will ensure its longevity. Dry bird droppings, bugs and tree sap can be dissolved using alcohol type solvents and wiped off with a damp microfiber towel. Bird droppings, tar, sap, etc. should be removed as soon as possible to avoid temporary staining or hardening on the coating. Any staining left behind from bird droppings will break down over a few days without affecting the coating. |

I have phytonic blue and have a similar mark on my bonnet. I have tried Autoglym super resin polish but wont shift it. Any other recommended products I keep hearing of meguirs ultimate compound for this sort of thing?
I have also seen numerous reports of applyimg heat with a hairdryer which sorts these marks out. I am obviously very reluctant to try this due to fear of damaging paint |

Hi,
For me - nothing beats a clay bar for correcting bird lime etchings. It’s a cheap and relatively easy way of sorting out the problem. Just make sure you start with a clean car, keep the bar constantly lubricated, turn it frequently and never drop it on the floor! Cheers Steve
