I ordered my 2020 X3 M40i (Sweden) from the factory with the black grille. I also thought it would clash with the matte silver mirrors/gills etc, so I went ahead and added black on all those parts as well. Also carbon black side mirrors because I didn't like the original matte silver mirrors anyway.
Result? See below (I'm happy with it).

I agree. I ordered mine with all of those parts changed to make it consistent. Went with the 726 wheels (21") to avoid the matte silver. See my post for pictures.

This is part of the S7M9 Individual Option High-Gloss Shadow-Line. It changes the grills, the boomerangs and the side gills for black gloss and the mirrors for the color of the car. I order mine with this but COVID 19 hasn't let me have her yet...

For those in the UK wanting OEM black gloss kidney grilles, Harry Fairburn in Kirkcaldy will do them for £110 delivered when you mention the forum.

Very good saving on the RRP of approx £150.

I was also quoted £36 per side for the wing vents in Shadowline gloss black, again, a cracking price for those wanting the Cerium grey delete.

You'll just have to wait for the COVID-19 restrictions to be lifted.

I also changed the silver sidevents to black ones, but did not make a photo.

I also didn't even they exist in black. Good to now. I will maybe go also this way, as I have the same combo (color+xLine). I already changed the grilles for ones with chrome surrounding and black slats, which looks better than the original xLine ones. What instructions did you follow when replacing the impact strips? Looking much better this way than from factory (unlike X1, which in xLine looks better than X3 imho).

There is no special instructions required. Just look at the clips of the new part so you know how to release the old part. Start at the number plate side and loosen clip by clip using a plastic trim removal tool and gently pull it off.

No you need to get them painted. Check out IND distribution for painted reflectors. 100% quality product.
