As others have said, if that's etched the clearcoat, which it looks like, then a machine polish is your friend to attempt to correct it. You may or may not get perfect results but it'll definitely look better once done.

Somebody mentioned above about using a rotary polisher on it, for that, I'd say only let a professional/competent person loose on your PnJ with a rotary, in the wrong hands, you'll do some serious damage to your paint. If you're going to attempt to machine polish yourself, invest in a decent DA polisher, watch Junkman vids on Youtube and give it a go.

As for Ceramic coatings not being able to withstand bird poop, the quality ones that are applied/left to cure correctly will definitely prevent bird poop etching.

Some rubbing compound on a cotton cloth followed by polishing compound will probably tone it down if not eliminate it. Use a finger and circular motion. On an older, black car I have used a metal polish like Flitz or Blue Magic in the same manner without doing any damage to the paint or clearcoat. If you're not that bold stick to compounds. A clay bar or towel is mildly abrasive any may also tone it down. Use a lubricant with clay.

Hi,
A clay bar is mildly abrasive - so it first removes any ceramic coatings or polishes - then it will remove the top layer of clearcoat (and fine scratches in this coat).
It is generally in these top layers that the bird lime will have affected.
Once you finish with the clay bar - you will have a clean but “naked” paint surface - so will need to apply polish or ceramic to protect it.
Cheers
Steve

I'd highly recommend giving Turtle Wax Bug and Tar Remover a shot. I had a bird poop residue spot on my x3 hood similar to yours and the Turtle Wax did wonders. The spot had been on the hood for probably a month and not even the pressure washer gun would take it off when I'd wash my car.

Apparently give a hair dryer a try. The etching is caused by the paint heating and cooling at different temps. So the hair dryer heats it all up to the same temp and then let it cool naturally. I’ve not tried this myself but have read it a few times on detailing sites. Could be a load of crap but worth investigating as it’s free and won’t damage the paintwork.

Oh wow, I had no idea. I thought the idea behind it was to pick up unbonded contaminants while NOT being abrasive.

For me - nothing beats a clay bar for correcting bird lime etchings.
It’s a cheap and relatively easy way of sorting out the problem.
Just make sure you start with a clean car, keep the bar constantly lubricated, turn it frequently and never drop it on the floor!

you're correct re: detailing clay- it only removes surface contaminants.

It’s not the residue left it’s the damage to the clear coat that it does . Going to try the hair dryer just reluctant to cause damage as the mark is very minor

I'm only a hobbyist detailer, but I try and keep up to date with new products.
It might be worth you trying to get hold of this new product from Autoglym called Reflow. It is specifically designed to treat your problem and restore clearcoat to new by using controlled heat sachets.

Like bird poo!
It seems he's got paint damage to deal with as a result of not getting the bird crap removed in timely manner
