Brake pads
My pads and rotors are pretty worn. I checked with the dealer and they told me almost 6k CAD plus tax for a full front/rear disc/pads service.
Seemed a little excessive so I checked bmw part numbers directly and wanted to ask what the deal is with pads. They seem unusually expensive, priced at 700 USD for the front and 600 USD for rear pads. Three part question for those who’ve been through a brake service on a f97/f98. 1) why are the bmw pads so expensive (4 pot pads aren’t that big). They’re 7x the price of brembo pads, and also like 50% more than factory 6 pot pads from bmw, for the m5 2) I went to google and saw a ton of replacement options with shw discs. Are these bmw discs, or some Chinese replacement? 3) what’s the thing to do here? I’m totally ok if taking it from the dealer is the only way to preserve the driving experience, but wanted to ask the hive mind before I give in for what seems like a particularly expensive brake job. 6k for steel pads and rotors, not even ceramic… shameful. |

A lot seem to go with ISweep 1500 or 2000 brake pads, for less dust and same bite on 1500, and slightly less dust, more bite on the 2000s.
On RGSport, the 2000s are 400 for front pads, and 270 for the rear, with wear sensors. Haven't does as much looking into rotors - How many miles generally till rotor replacement, also curious to see what rotor options and costs ppl share. Thanks |

Isweep 1500's is what i went with but i'm uncertain about the rotors as i slapped the pads on at 17k miles and i'm only at 21k. In reference to the rotors i'm less certain what options we have but i can't imagine there are no options other then factory (but anything is possible).
RGsport has these front's for example (pair) SHW Performance Cross-Drilled Front Brake Rotor Set for BMW F97 X3M F98 X4M P/N: BFL43501 / BFR43502 0 reviews / Write a review Price:$661.76 Adding in the cost of the 1500/2000 series Isweep pads and these rotors it's much less.

Our front rotors wear thin quick. I bought my car used with 45,000kms (28,000 miles) and the front rotors were right at the thickness limit and the dealership had to replace them to safety the car.
Dynamic Friction are an option from Rock Auto: Front: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...qU1H6RLw%3D%3D Rear: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...qU1H6RLw%3D%3D |

The prices you are quoting are for Pads AND rotors. Also, I doubt eBay is the best most cost effective place to buy factory parts.
Get on realoem.com, find the right part numbers, and look them up on bmwpartshub.com or getbmwparts.com. Fcpeuro.com will probably be pricier than the other two but they offer a lifetime warranty on everything (yes, even disposables like oil and pads). |

My front rotors were at 35.1mm at 45k km. Minimum thickness is 34.4mm, new is 36. So they were about half worn. I just put new pads on and will do pads/rotors the next time.
There are a lot of good pads out there for a lot less, if you can DIY. Even OEM Brembos are about $200 on Rock Auto, probably not exactly the same as OE, but very close. For rotors I would stick with OEM, you can probably find them in white boxes rather than OE BMW boxes for significantly less. I want to say I have seen them for mid 300's CAD. |

Looks like more like high 300's, I was just going off memory. Jnat posted something similar above, but not in link form.

That's USD and they don't ship to Canada.
Those rotors are $561 here, on sale for $445: https://www.parkautomotorsports.ca/p...39853b1c&_ss=r https://www.parkautomotorsports.ca/p...59065d3d&_ss=r |

Yup, indeed the 6K i quoted (CAD $5505 + tax) is for parts and labour for the full car, pads, rotors, sensors, etc.
However the 700USD and 600USD prices I quoted, were only for front or rear OEM pads. Quote:

Kevin, check out https://www.shipbymail.com
Honestly, most canadian vendors would do anything to sell to the US market. I don't think I've ever heard that before. PM if you need a hand, happy to help (via Montreal tho... kinda far from the west coast). Quote:

Where/what company? I'm in Ontario (Canada, not California) and could also assist. |

Sorry about that, I should have looked at those ebay links a little closer. Man the Canada shipping bit is a killer. A local dealer has the pads for $546 and $406 front and rear here.

Thank you man & I really appreciate you as well. Right now I'm working with someone who lives a touch closer in Vancouver. That should make things a touch easier & quicker in terms of shipping to California.
