Asyvan will you be color matching yours or installing it as it came?
I will start off with having it shiny black. I think it will look good overall against the other parts such as window frames and roof rail etc.

Do you have more pics from different angles? Would love to get a better idea of how it looks in white.

Thanks

I originally wasn't a fan of the double stack look but it's definitely growing on me. Price point aside I think I still like the 3D splitter a little better, but I like that the Maxton doesn't prutrude forward as much. Decisions decisions.

I think the 3D splitter is hands down a better look but the price can't be justified when compared to the Maxton. If 3D would offer it in ABS plastic and it be somewhat comparable in price to the Maxton, I would jump all over it.

Question for those of you that have mounted your Maxton.

Mine seems to be a perfect fit (you can feel it "plops" into place) but the rear outer ends does not end at the wheel opening. The entire lip sits a bit forward such that the rear outer ends end a bit before the wheel opening.

If I move it back a bit so that the rear outer ends line up with the wheel openings it does not feel as the fit is 100%.

What was your experience when mounting?

Hi, mine like yours fitted great and you can feel the correct position by the way the shape fits under the bumper, it sort of just finds it position. As for the ends below is both sides of the Maxton. Nearside first then Offside

How much out is yours, mine is a couple of mm, nothing for me to worry about.

Managed to get it pretty much perfect, except that I used to thick VHB tape. If you look closely on the sides of mine you can see a gap between the body and the "lip". Due to the thickness of the tape. I used 1.1mm but should have used 0.6mm. Too late now.

Hi Suby01 please see attached, approx every 200mm, yes i did reuse a couple (rusty) of self tappers from my previous 440i with a Maxton splitter. Placed two in the centre.

This is the same amount of screws (with VHB tape) as used on two previous cars over 3-4 years and they never fell off, even at high speed test runs on my private track!

Q: if putting in screws and tape, does that make it more difficult to sell from a resale standpoint? Just thinking on the lease return in <3 years, I'd resale the lip, but wonder what a mess it might be in? I also want it to be firmly planted on the vehicle while driving though.

I took a bunch of pictures now after my installation. Unfortunately I didn't take any during the installation. But here is a description:
  • Screws should be mounted as far forward as possible due to the forces of the airspeed when driving.
  • I drilled two "longer" holes (in the direction of the car) so that I could mount the lip temporarily and then adjust it to exact position (and mark the position) before I mount the 3M VHB tape.
  • I used 3M VHB Tape 1.1mm thick, try using a thinner version like the one that is 0.6mm.
  • Due to item #1 above I drilled holes in the bottom lip so that I could reach inside the lip and mount the screws as far forward as possible.
  • I used plenty of screws and 3M VHB tape, if you go 10 screws or 20 screws does not matter. The bumper is destroyed anyway the day you take the lip off.

As someone who is leasing as well, I think this is a no go for us. Since youll be drilling into the bumper, you could easily be on the hook for a new front bumper on lease end. As much as I want this, the smart decision is to stay away

Yes - a lot of VHB tape and a lot of self tapping screws!
