Would increasing tire size cause anything weird with warranty? I want to do this.

Technically yes. You could have a situation where they try to claim the tire size change caused a problem. Lets say you're differential started to make noise and they didn't want to deal with it so the blame it on your tire swap. Comes down to the service department you use. Then you'll have to fight to get things fixed or take it to another dealer and hope for an actual diagnosis.

Did I mention the Contis were garbage?

Have you had these on at all during the summer? I am curious about the summer / warmer weather performance of these. This seems to be the only all season option in the desired size.

This is my main concern. I’d love to run 295s on the rear but don’t need any hassle for warranty work..

Exactly, me either. Not quite trusting yet...maybe after the factory tires, but mine has already been down for a lot of warranty work on the engine in the first 1k miles...it’s been good for the next 1k, but still only 2k miles on it so not that much time to gain the confidence. My dealer was great, so I don’t think they’d do anything shady, but still a little nervous about needing warranty.

Yeah I’m about to cross 10k trouble free miles and will need some new tires this spring/summer probably. More than likely I will chicken out but we will see..

I have 15k miles on my X3MC and haven't had a single problem with it. Absolutely love almost everything about the car.

On top of more tire, no more skittish handling over bumps. Rides a lot better too. Always get the Michelin’s.

Edit- I’ll add they wear better too. My contis were 2/3rds worn at 6k miles

Not sure how they could argue this if the front/rear circumference ratio was the same as stock.

Now if you changed the ratio (OEM is 1.0099:1) then you could argue premature wear to the vehicle.

For reference the 255/40 and 295/35 is 1.0033:1. I wouldn't do 265/40 front as that makes the front tire larger in diameter than the rear tire, which is the opposite of the stock sizes.

New user here but have been reading the forum as currently looking at new tyre options as the standard Conti rears are on their way out after around 9.5k miles! The tyres seem to have been pretty poor though, not been impressed.

Just wondering about the 295/35 option on the rears as a quick internet search seems to show the standard rear wheel size is 10 inches which seems to have a max tyre size of 285, is this not correct or are the wheels wider than that?

Cheers

Been wondering the same thing as I hold off on ordering mine... anyone have any ideas?

If you have questions on whether a tire will fit you can almost always just browse to the tire manufacturers website and look at the specs for the tire in the size you want. In this case:

Rim Width Range (Min/Max)
10.00" - 11.50"

That is straight from Michelin's website for the 295/35/21.

So you're saying keep front tire size stock but going 295/35 in rear would be ok?

Yes, using the 295 rear and 255 front would create a ratio that would be close to the factory ratio, while still having the rear tires be larger in diameter than the front (just like the factory setup). If you went to a 265/40 front 295/35 rear then your front tires are now larger in diameter than your rear.

Ok interesting. But aren't the factory 265/40 rear larger in diameter than the factory 255/40 front?

Interesting. I see so many people talk about 265/40 front and 295/35 rear, but seems like leaving the front size alone might not be a bad idea and just going wider in the rear

All 3 tires are so similar that I don't think it matters either way. Fluctuations in tire pressure have about the same tolerances. Most put the 265 in the front just for that extra grip.

Oh ok, so we're talking real minor differences that don't really have an impact. Gotcha. Thanks!

I don’t care about the extra rubber, I just want a longer wearing, all season tire with decent grip.

Plenty of options out there under that criteria.
