Looks are a subjective topic. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I agree and I have to say the Mercedes-Benz looks worlds better.

Only believe half of what you see.

Perhaps this is not what everyone thinks it is.

There are luggage rack rails on the roof. The only thing M on this X4 is the sideview mirrors. I see nothing else that stands out. Hopefully the real X4M will have way more aggressive styling.

It's probably just a test mule vehicle.

while I am not super impressed by the X4M, the X4 still looks better than the GLC Coupe, and remember MB copied BMW with the whole SUV Coupe thing, in pictures and even more so in person the MB Coupe looks like a bubble, the X4 looks better (still not as good as I hoped though). Macan and Stelvio probably look the best for the small trunk mid size SUVs (they really compete against X4, not X3 if you look at cargo volume).

never thought there would be so many high powered mid size SUV options.
Stelvio Quad
F Pace SVR
X3M/X4M
Macan Turbo
GLC63
Audi is surprisingly missing here
Audi does the SQ5.

That's about as good as Audi gets.

I am not sure it's specifically flared fenders - I think people expected wider wheels and a beefier stance, which would typically require some wider body work in the back (like flared fenders).

For a full on M product, that leaked picture of the rear looks a bit flimsy.

That's all I am saying...

While the 450-500hp X4 M might cost more than a BASE Macan GTS with its 360hp, the GTS is unlikely to cost less once you actually put some equipment on the car (a typical Macan GTS is $80-85k, and you can easily go higher).

Regardless, the X4 M isn't aimed at the GTS, anyway, that's the job of the X4 M40, a vehicle that costs less than the GTS does. The X4 M would line up with the Macan Turbo, a vehicle that again I would expect to cost more than the X4 M, especially with common equipment, as they routinely crest $100k (putting them squarely into X5 M range).

Porsche rarely comes in 2nd place in the "which car is more expensive" battle. I don't expect it to this time, either.

Did you not see the quad exhaust tips, which are an “M” design element? Luggage rail racks on the roof don’t mean a non M vehicles. And the X4M on the rear end. There is more proof that this is an M, than not.

It’s not all about HP!! And a Macan GTS really doesn’t need any options in my opinion!! I believe at launch the Porsche actually undercut the (original) X4 on price spec for spec!!

is it only me or the M badge look way bigger than the X4 badge which gives the impression that some one just put an M badge on a non M car ?

Fire whoever designed this thing because the rear end literally looks like someone detonated C4 on the back of the X3 and just taped the remains back together. It is genuinely an affront

No matter what badge is on the rear, these SUV 'coupes' are extremely difficult to look at.

Test mule not the finished product is what he's saying. BMW is not even putting the model designation up where you see the X4M badge anymore. Its now below the tail light like in the GLC. The car's not due to reveal till at least January 2019 not to talk of on sale date. There's still a lot of time to go. Heck look at the recent preview videos of the X7. That car is due to reveal in the next 2 to 3 months and even that still has all sorts of test bits on it. I remember one of the recent X7 preview videos showed a picture of a 5GT I think in the iDrive animation which usually shows an image of that specific model.

Yeah thats why I think this is fake why wouldnt it have fender flares ? Wouldnt be a full M with no fender flares. The wheels are actually pretty slim. The X4 has a wider track then a m3 an m4 an x3. So not sure why this would make sense to do. So I dont trust this photo or its just a testing model idk but just dont seem right. BMW would totally loose lots of money because nobody would be so interested. x4 is already a hard model to play with why not make it all it could be

I am slightly disappointed they didn’t add fender flare trims, it’s such a small part it could have very easily been done and allowed much wider wheels.

Personally can't tell different from a current X4 M40i immediately unless we are looking for the differences that we know. For general public it's not impressive at all and no one would tell the difference!

same as with X3M40i and X3M?

Yes likely the same difference:-

x4 m40i to x4m = guesswork
X3 m40i to x3m = guesswork
