BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Was interested in comparing the F95-F97 and the F96-F98 series with the international build sites now available. A lot of data in the charts so apologies in advance if I made a transcription error. And as side reference also provided info for the M2C, M5C, and M8C. Note that the steering ratio for the F97/98 indicated '2.9' in the references I found, so I am assuming that was a typo for 12.9 -- feel free to correct if I'm mistaken.

I built the models with roughly same paint and option schemes to provide similar exterior points of view.

while I do like the new X5M/X6M, I would much prefer the smaller, more nimble X3M/X4M ... and no, i'm not bias

Just realized how much more aggressive the X5M front is compared to the X3M.

I agree. For us this size class hits the sweet spot perfectly as well - small enough in tight parking lots for ease of manuevering, excellent handling, yet still providing loads of performance and cargo space (at least the F97). I meant to take an image a few days ago for Transfer but got busy and forgot. He indicated in a much earlier thread he would enjoy '500hp mulch runs', and I did have a full load of garden soil, pine bark nuggets, and 3 gal plants and it held all easily.

And I almost added a line in the chart for the Weight/Power ratio considering IND's Dyno and quarter mile data, confirmed by the Sim, that it probably is more in the range of 8.4 for the F97/98. Will see how future data pans out for the series to see if this was BMW massaging the numbers for the series line so the F97/98 wouldn't usurp their larger, more expensive siblings in the performance numbers. Not that it should matter, for those interested in the F95/96 are more likely to want the finer cabin and suspension elements those provide, regardless of those performance differences.

I keep trying to hit the BMW F97 0-60mph specification of 4.0 seconds. I keep failing miserably.

3.38 3.45 3.52 I might try it without using LC and just stomp and go....that might help....where is my 4.0 ?????

I'd just give up now mate - clearly a flat 4.0 is just BMW sales and marketing balderdash...

As I was building the white models on the Swiss site I took note of the summary prices to compare to what we pay in the US (similarly optioned).

X3MC - CHF (Swiss Franc) 122'850 ($123,384 per currency converter 14 Oct)
X4MC - CHF 127'760 ($128,316)
X5MC - CHF 180'490 ($181,275)
X6MC - CHF 183'690 ($184,489)

I'm not sure how much of that price differential goes to Swiss add-on taxes and gas penalties etc., but that is a remarkable increase. For that price our Swiss colleagues deserve to get the CFRP strut brace for free!
