Difference between standard gauge and full digital
Hey everyone,
I'm looking to lease the X3 with premium essential package and I'm deciding if it's worth paying a bit more to get the premium enhanced package. Only thing from the enhance package that I'm interested in would be the lumbar support and the full digital instrument cluster. What the difference between the full digital and regular? Also I've never used heads up display before is it useful? |

There are several threads about the difference in gauges. One example here
Digital vs standard gauge cluster https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1418253 Regarding HUD - BMW did a great job in its implementation. Not only you get speed display and speed limit info, you also get Navigation direction and warning when applicable. A few folks had said they would not buy another car without this option (myself included). |

I'd say the full digital display and HUD are well worth the upgrade.

I bought my X4 with HUD, first time opted for this option and would never ever buy car without this.
It’s brillant, You do not have to focus on digital cluster just front windshield.. in my opinion it is must have. What is interesting, I have got full digital cluster but not using it. Looking just at window. |

Thanks for the information everyone. I guess premium enhanced it is! Now the question is... should I pay $1000 for surround view LOL.

You don't need to get the full digital cluster for HUD, unless that changed for MY19. If you're not looking at it anyway (because you're looking at the HUD instead), why pay for it?

The full digital instrumentation is aesthetically more pleasing than the semi-digital one but it's not as configurable as competitors' virtual cockpit (sadly). The HUD, though, much like others who've responded above, is something that I can't do without in the next car. What I do regret is not getting is the surround view...

I have the "ultimate" package - basically all the options. Recently I was given a loaner with the standard package. I really missed not having the HUD, full digital display and surround view.

Keep in mind HUD doesn't work if you wear polarized sunglasses, I have it, rarely can I see it (except nighttime). I won't go away from polarized glasses due to extreme light sensitivity, so if you are in this type of situation, I wouldn't spend more just for HUD.

Surround view is another awesome feature. I was just commenting to the wife yesterday how nice it is to have and how easy it makes it to ensure you are right in the middle of a parking spot, close to a wall, etc. it's definitely another option that I won't go without when it's time for a new vehicle.

I have the hud, but i dont find iT useful. Often iT is unclear to read when for example you sit in a traffic jam behind a white car. There is no contrast and iT is impossible to read. Put on polarized sunglasses and everything disappears. Then when you get into the night i find iT very obstructive and annoying. You can change the brightness, but when you go one way, the problem Gets bigger on the other side of the spectrum. So i gave in and for me it only shows the speed, the navigation and others are all set to the display in my revcounter. And for the speed on my window, i never look at iT and i often forget iT is there. For me iT is an option that i can easily do without.
