My understanding of them having watched several YouTube videos is that they just cycle through the driving modes and nothing else. There is one video on an 5 series where it also gives comfort entry/exit ie steering wheel automatically goes in and seat goes back but as we don’t have this option from factory on our cars that won’t happen. The other thing I’ve seen as it might auto close windows and sunroofs on ignition off. But not 100% on that.

It won’t change any other functions.

Well....I've received my buttons that I've ordered from link that Shaun170 gave earlier, idk if it is just my car but top plastic trim does not fit. It is the same overall shape but tabs are not the same. I was able to cut off some tabs that were getting in the way and put it in place but it is not a OEM fit. I think there are two versions of this kit, with different plastic trims. Buttons themselves are pretty good but they came without any cables out of them and no connectors to connect them so after some messing around I've figured that I actually need to open up buttons and replace small circuit boards inside with the boards that came pre-wired into the harness. Did not mess with centre console yet, will do it tomorrow, hopefully everything works.

Some progress today, or rather lack of progress. I could not figure out where to plug in the receiver module, all videos of the installation I can find show older cars where they have all the wires exposed under centre console trim. I have a newer style integrated shifter/iDrive controller module which is just a one single assembly, same as on G20. I've tried to open it up and could not figure it out but it looks like inside is just a one circuit board so very different to internet videos. Anyone with LCI x3/g20/g21/g22 knows where all the connectors are now?

And yes, you need to change pins, I don't see how it can be possible with plug and play on LCI models because you will have to take 1 wire out of the huge connector that goes to controller.

My retro fit kit has arrived in the UK. So just waiting on customs clearance and delivery.

I’ll do my best to take pictures and do a write up.

Mine is advertised for a G20 but seller says it’s compatible with a G01.

G20 kit is what we need for LCI G01 (and probably pre LCI too), electronics and buttons and connectors are all the same, only difference I think is this big plastic top cover, and I suspect that it depends on if you have ACC/heated steering wheel. I have ACC and heated steering and my original cover had these long tabs with mounting holes going down, the one that I've got with the kit was different (but still possible to fit with some modifications). So even though M performance wheels are exactly the same outside, they are not the same inside!

I am saying that one I've got required modification, but I did not speak with them, just ordered the one that said "3 series" and hoped for the best. Yours might be different. Assuming that our cars are identical then if yours looks like this then you are good:

The one that I've got looks like this (notice no long tabs with holes) and I basically had to cut off all these that are marked with red arrows. On listing page where you need to select the variant they only show it from top so you never know what you will get

Why anyone would order 5/3 G series when there is X3 G Series type available on aliexpress of same mod, is beyond me, sorry...

Just checked what I’ve been sent and it’s short tabs I told the seller on more than one occasion that it was for an X3 and they said fine just order 3 series as it’s the same. As you say you can’t see the underside of the trim in their photos of the product so can’t check for the long tabs. Not knowing myself they were different I assumed the seller knew. Waited over a month for this to arrive.

What year is your X3, just in case they changed the trim design on different years.

Because I was told by the seller that they were the same. The module says simply G Series on it. It appears that the trim tabs for internal fixing is the only difference between a 3 series and an X3 and you can’t see these in the sellers photos. I put my faith in the seller selling me the correct product

Shaun170 mine is 2022. You can remove airbag and see for yourself, it is actually very easy, all you need is a flat screwdriver. I have tried to contact the seller when I have found that it is not the same and they didn’t answer. It is not the end of the world, fit fine, just needs a bit of messing around. I am OCD with things like that and it doesn’t bother me. I had a pretty fat cable going behind the front silver trim all around at the top which I just re-routed a bit and it was ok after that

Thanks. I’ve taken the airbag off before as I’ve fitted an OEM carbon wheel trim and G80 carbon paddles.

I’ve got a refund from AE and am sending it back. Annoying thing is there are plenty of photos for the item showing the trim with extended tabs. Seller now saying he only checked the module which is the same for all G series but doesn’t know what trims fit an X3

In contact with another seller who is making enquiries with what he’s selling to see if it will have the correct trim for an X3

I hope you verified that you actually have trim with long tabs, don’t listen to me, without more evidence I am just speculating

I bet that they have no clue themselves. I also bet that it is not the question of which car you have, because all steering wheels are the same, but the question which options you have. Steering wheel with ACC and heating has much more electronics inside than the same steering wheel without these functions.

fyi, i've been "always" asking aliexpress seller (in their messaging section) to send the "actual" photos of "all" the items in the shipment "before" the order is placed. No confusion thereafter (because of hearsay and their "generic" pictures on their ad) thereafter but shit still happens during transit.

I havent, but I have the same wheel as you. 2022 with ACC and heating. I suspect they will be the same.
