M1 / M2 Buttons Retrofit

A couple of weeks ago, I saw on a Facebook Group an actual M1 / M2 buttons retrofit on a G01. Apparently the post has been deleted, I have been searching all over and I couldn't find it. Also, found a Youtube video of the whole install on a M240ix (G42), but it's now hidden/private.

The only thing I could find was this video of how they works:

I saw one like that, in which the M1 and M2 buttons will navigate over the driving options.

Basically was a wireless module from steering wheel to the buttons on the center console.

Yes, I believe is the only "functionality" available for that retrofit in a non-M/Comp other than just having the buttons with no functions. If I recall correctly, the only tricky part, besides taking apart the airbag and the center/gear console, was moving a couple of pins from the plug that goes in the gear selector to the wireless receiver.

How so? All the videos I saw had heating and no buttons. The kit comes with the trim, but it is optional to change it.

Looking for it too. I remember seeing somewhere here or in 3 series forum that it is possible to code in m modes, but not possible to actually activate them because there are no m buttons, wondering if it is somehow possible to use these steering wheel buttons in conjunction with coding to have full functioning m modes on non m cars?

Not possible.
You can just cycle driving modes what you have.

I like this. I’m guessing heated steering would still work if factory fitted? Unsure why they bother supplying the silver lower trim part. Surely you’d just leave what you already have?

Where did you get this info from as it’s supposed to be plug and play, nothing about moving pins.

At least, the video I saw from a 2022 G42, they moved various pins from the gear selector plug (the big one that have a latch) like they do with the LCI Tail lights retrofit to Pre-LCI. The video that davfer86 posted they plug n' play, don't know if it's related to newer models, model specific or for that item specific.

Surely, I don't see why it would not work. Also, don't know why they add that lower trim part. Maybe just for the looks for models that apply.

I have contacted the seller and they say it is plug and play, no electrics to do but factory heated wheel can’t be used with this kit. No idea why not.

Edit: I contacted the seller again to confirm if original heating button would work as I thought it was odd that it wouldn’t and they have said yes. I think it was a communication issues and maybe the auto translate on Ali.

Well, I bit the bullet and bought a kit from Aliexpress. I can confirm, yes is Plug-n-Play and yes it works. I will update the first post in case someone search this retrofit in the future.

Great. No pins to remove install just plugs? The link in your first post shows pictures with pins that need re pinning?

Any answer to my question as I’m about to buy tomorrow and the pictures show pins that need re pinning. I’ve seen a video on YouTube of a retrofit into a 5 series and it doesn’t look problematic but not having to do it is easier.

So the kit you’ve bought shown in your first post shows naked pins but your saying plug and play. What is it?
