2022 X3 tow hitch cover issue

Good morning. For the past two weeks I've noticed that my tow hitch cover seems to be loose and will pop out from time to time. Has anybody else notices to be an issue. There has been no damage to the bumper, nothing was hit however just seems to not fit correctly.

Is this the black plastic square piece that fits over the open receiver end?

It's rubber. It dries out and shrinks. Things wear out with use as well.

Should bring it up with your SA and they will probably lemon the whole car.

I don't think that should happen especially since you have a '22 model. On my '19, I've never had the cover come loose.

Make sure the two bumps on the cover are on the bottom and it shouldn’t move. My X5 is a year and a half old and my X3 is six months old with no issues.

Heat the inside edges with a heat gun and expand them slightly.

:-) I did the same. But I haven't had any issues with it being loose either.

Ours fits well, can’t see it coming out. Aftermarket ones with a strap are readily available too.

Don't these covers have two holes in them? Just use a hitch pin with lock, prevents it against theft too.

I think half the posters thought you were referring to the trailer tow hitch cover. Not the plastic cover in your picture

Ebay is your friend. Just ordered a new rear one for the wife's car - for some reason, there is a black one on and not a gray one to match the panel. Guessing it fell off and someone just got a generic.

2021 and down (for sure, could be for 2022+) PN, M40i M Sport -
Front one - 8064606
Rear one - 8064834
