Dinan Wheels 285/295

Haven't noticed anyone actually go this route. Perhaps due to them being 20’s?

The interesting part is their choice in tires. See a lot of people go for 265/295 but haven't seen anyone go for 285/295 like the dinan option. Same could be done with any wheels with the same offsets.

Too much poke perhaps?

Anyone done this or seen in person perhaps?

20's look tiny on these vehicles.

I actually think that looks really good. Wonder if that's factory ride height?

3k for fully forged wheels isn't too bad either.

I agree that looks good considering 20" and I bet there is substantial weight savings. Personally I would not want 285 on the front though. I already think there is too much torque steer and tramlining.

Edit: I should clarify I have 265 front, 295 rear on stock 21s.

That is actually on some of our initial prototype springs (not quite the end result we will be releasing with). so that's down about 3/4 of an inch all the way around if I remember right.

We opted for 20's namely because we could fit some more rubber under the car to help with the additional power that will ultimately be given to it and have some additional sidewall. Running thin on an SUV just always seems wrong. Given, its not like the X3M is going offroading or anything but its more the principle of it.

Great feedback! Does that mean Dinan is announcing a spring set soon?

They are coming. Would have been earlier but the aformentioned issue with the first prototype set put them back a bit.

Are those wheels only for M vehicles, or would they also fit with those sizes/offsets on an M40i?

Bolt pattern is the same, fenders are the same, suspension clearance I can’t say and it might be a gotcha. Is anyone running an 11in wide rear on the x40i? Checking offsets between what’s been done (if it’s been done) would be telling.

Never been tested on an M40i but given the massive difference in stock wheels/ tires between the 2 models I think the likliehood of them fitting is slim. Going from a 7.5" wide wheel to an 11" is a big ask assuming you want to keep it flush.

11" rear WILL fit on an M40. Same applies for a 10" wheel in front. Offset is key.

That's what I wasn't sure of, if the suspension or fenders were different from M to 40i. As you said, offset is the key to getting them to fit just right. AWE did that with the custom set they designed for the Audi S5.

This looks like a good option. In the future I might get two more rear oem wheels for the front and try this tire size combo.

Liking this setup because it's nearly 100% equal match to the OEM sizes, so there should not be any speedometer mismatch.

Anyone tried this 285/40 up front?

275 40 20....285 can fit but what's the point.

It shouldn't be a problem with the correct wheel widths and offsets. 20x10 et26 and a 285/40 will be verrrry close to the suspension. You might need a 2-3mm spacer honestly.

My understanding is that the offset is critical to the size of the brakes, but I could be wrong.

I know in many cases, "standard" (non-M) wheels won't fit because the incorrect offset won't allow fitment over the larger M brakes. Not sure what happens when you go the other way, i.e. M-designed wheels going to a non-M car that has smaller brakes.

James.

The speedometer won't be miscalibrated with a 285/40/20.
