Fresh Detail 22 BG X3M - plus HydroSlick experience

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I’ve been wanting to detail this car since taking delivery in late December. Had some time over the weekend to tackle its first bath and my version of a detail. I discovered we have a Detail Garage near us carrying just about everything Chemical Guys so went to check it out. I like that this option is local!

I had looked at the HydroCharge spray before going and was planning to try that but got sucked into an up sell to layer the HydroSlick hyper wax on top. Hah had sucker on my forehead I’ll admit. These are their version of hydrophobic “ceramic” products that are supposed to be easy for the DIYer to apply.

On to it. I’m no professional by any means…these are the steps I took.
  1. CG watermelon soap (2 bucket method)
  2. Dried with CG wooly mammoth towel
  3. CG original clay bar
  4. CG HydroCharge spray - applied with microfiber towel (paint, trim, glass and wheels)
  5. car sat for about 24 hours
  6. CG HydroSlick hyper wax applied with foam applicator

The wooly mammoth towel was awesome. Dried the car in no time and it barely felt wet. Soap and clay bar are exactly as you would expect.

Everything went really well up until the HydroSlick hyper wax. My first attempt I used a few dots and while it went on somewhat smoothly I could not figure out how to remove the product. I tired various techniques of less product, reduced time to remove and even a moistened applicator but it didn’t change how hard it was to remove this stuff. I ended up moistening the pad, barely using any product and using two different microfiber towels to remove it. Truly a PITA!

Honestly I was pretty impressed by the shine and slickness after the spray only which was very easy to apply. I will say that now 24 hours after the HydroSlick it’s super slick to the touch but IMO not worth the effort of having to remove this product. I’ll stick to the HyperCharge spray and maybe a sealant next time.

Really enjoying the car so far!

After using both hydro slick and hydro charge in the past, you were better off using Adams graphene spray for better results.

I fully agree with this. If you haven't tried Adam's yet, I would highly suggest it. Even their advance glass specific coating blew my socks off after the very first application. The chemists they higher for their formulations are top notch!

I used the Adams Graphene Spray in the past on my F30 and G05 and it was phenomenal and lasted over a year. I used the actual graphene ceramic coating for my X3M and couldn't be happier with the results. It just takes a lot of time and patience to paint correct the car.

The Chemical guys stuff only lasted a month or 2 for me before it died out.

Thanks for the feedback! I’ll have to look into the Adam’s stuff for next time.
