RaceChip or JB4?

What would you go with why and have you had any issues.

If you want e tunes then jb4.

If e isn't a priority then it’s personal preference at this point. Many users of both and quite a few threads discussing this.

I have RC, had it for 18months 9k miles no issues.

Install is the same for both.

Race chip is plug in and go. I think with the jb4 you can do slight modifications, turn off cel .etc…
I've had the race chip for about a year no issues. Adds a great amount of Hp. Can't speak on the jb4.

I’ve always had Burger Tuning Stage 1 over the years. I like to install it on a basically stock car and enjoy the extra power. JB4 IMO is for those that are going to modify in addition to the tune ie) ethanol, Downpipes etc.

I don’t see a Stage 1 option for F97 from Burger so I bought a Racechip this time. Seems like the same as a Stage 1 from Burger where you can change maps and boost to a degree but it’s basically install and forget.

Still monitoring for flash tune for the 2021+ though

I went for the racechip as I'd used one in a previous car with good results and the £8,000 engine warranty is certainly better than nothing. I'm getting <3.3s to 60 with it which seems to be similar to what the JB4 is advertised to achieve.

I think the JB4 is a good option if you are looking for more customization to eek out a little more power if you have other mods.

it appears RaceChip raised the horsepower on their RS to 107. At $499 it has become a no-brainer.

BMW didn't change the drivetrain on 2022, so my wild guess, it will work.

Someone please talk me off the roof that the G80 Racechip advertising 130+hp is due to the different drivetrain compared to the advertised 99hp gain on our AWD drivetrain. I have a Racechip I’ve yet to install.

I don't know how the hp gain is calculated.
But, in general, AWD have more powerloss due to AWD than RWD.

ive used jb4 and now racechip

for the x3m racechip is definitely legit simple and easy to use

more than enough for the roads

AWD from a dig

RWD pull top end bc of the power loss in the AWD drive train

correct me if im wrong?

Racechip's advertising is super misleading imo.

For example the +101hp they advertise for the GTS black on the X3M/X4M was actually only +77hp over what the stock car made on their dyno. They include what the car actually makes on the dyno above the advertised figure as part of the gains of their product, which seems super sketchy to me.

I never believe in advertising information.
That's why I always test and give info back to the community.
For example, intake. Some brand claim +15hp gain.
It is not true.
Test it, not even close. But it is cool to have and look at if you have deep pocket.

Also, don't be mistaken on crank/flywheel hp, wheel hp, brake hp, bhp, etc.
I forgot how they calculate their hp number, but it is one of those.
Also it was a conversion from what they get to crank hp by common formula.

Both are crank hp based on the conversion factor of their dyno, somewhere in the region of 20%.

Their car made 533PS stock and 611PS with the racechip, but they advertise a gain of +101PS on their website. How is that not just completely false based on their own testing results?

I'll contact them and find out.
This happened before to with F90 M5. Just don't remember what was their answer to me.

Got the answer.

Stock number is from what BMW published.
The gain delta is comparison on dyno testing result with RaceChip map 7 minus BMW published hp.
As you all know, BMW tend to underrated their published hp.
Also, each car will have different baseline, not all will be exactly the same.

Nothing is sketchy, just different data used for baseline.
Hope that answer your question.

It is sketchy though, in their own testing they made +77hp so why would they advertise their product at +101hp when that's not what it did?
