I gave a quick review here.
http://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showpo...&postcount=611 Mine tends to hug the right side of the lane a little more than I'd like, but I bet it can be recalibrated. |

I observed in an area with wide lanes that it tends to just wander in the lane and sort of bounce off the lines, a bit like a bowling ball with gutter guards. The effect is normally fairly subtle but I can see a very slightly tilted road, tramlining, or even alignment issues making it feel like it is hugging one side. There probably is also some calibration in regards to how sharply it corrects, etc, just thinking about other factors as well.

But I tried it today on a local county road and didn't like how it tracked at all. Despite giving me the green steering wheel, etc., it had a problem keeping in the lane when the curve was fairly tight and I had to intervene before I ran off the road. There is also one right hand curve that is fairly sharp that has an intersection coming in from the left, kind of a Y junction. A left turn lane begins just before the Y. The lane keeping assist did not track the main lane around the corner to the right but seemed to want to follow the middle stripe into the left turn lane, which would have resulted in a head on collision had I not intervened. So I'd definitely be cautious about over-relying on the system. Good for longer trips if I'm feeling fatigued or when I want to fiddle with the radio or something, but not something I'll routinely use. |

Looks like an admin modified my post? No worries! So do/can folks leave this on and just drive normally? I selected it to keep me from being drowsy on very boring sections of highway.

I'm not sure if the lane keep uses both the sensor in the lower grill and the cameras through the windshield, but I believe if you have your windshield replaced for example, it needs re calibrated. At least this is the case with other brands.

It's just a gimmick at this stage, not a mature tech you can rely on. Give it a couple more generations, and let it develop safely.

This tech works really well for what it was intended to do...keep you in lane on long relativley straight / slightly curved roads at highway speeds or in any kind of stop and go traffic. Stretch your arms and legs or take off your jacket etc.
Not quite ready yet for city/urban hands free driving.

I buy a BMW to drive.. and not have something else drive/park for me. Isn't that the reason people buy the ultimate driving machines?

Agree. Blaring musing with cuss words and racial slurs definitely not good for a wide spectrum of viewers. While I may love and adore the Hip hop Station on XM radio... the choice of it (or perhaps the lack of recognition of what was playing) will certainly limit the audience that will appreciate your video Last edited by M3 Adjuster; 12-15-2017 at 04:57 PM.. |

Yes, but sitting in stop and go for 45 min. per day never getting above 30MPH to me doesn't allow me to drive it the way it was meant to be driven. Being hands/feet free for a good 25min of that ride for the last week has made my daily commute more relaxing..
