suggestion for a X3 M40i
hello,
I am in the market to to jump to a SUV and based on my search I narrowed it down to get a X3 M40i. I own a 2016 340i MT, with B58 and like the car plus the reliability of B58. I am struggling to figure out which year/ trim option I should look for, looking to get a preowned one about 30-40K mile, any suggestions? are there some major changes in 2022-23 X4 m40i? |

22+ looks way better, gets a bigger navi screen, better interior finishes but also has 382 hp and idrive 7 standard
the pre lci ones i.e. 21 and below are louder because the mild hybrid system doesnt drown out the exhaust, anything pre idrive 7 also gets a better Hk stereo w more wattage

Yes, and with that lighter weight comes the missing door pocket lights, so you won't be able to see little gems the wife has tucked away down there over a period of weeks/months/years....

I had a 2019 X4 and it drove great. I currently have a 2023 X3 and really enjoy all the drive features, back-up assist, 360 cameras, remote start...If buying used try to find one with some warranty remaining for peace of mind. Much depends on your budget.
Yes we all bitch about the cars that's what folks do on car forums |

Personally I like the sleeper factor of the pre-LCI facelift. Very subtle.
The LCI is significantly faster at lower speeds but what's interesting is the trap speed is identical to pre-LCI (along with 0-100 and 0-130 times). I wonder if that's due to the hybrid giving a boost of low end torque. https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...y-the-numbers/ https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...i-test-review/ I don't really want for anything with my 2019 but I did hear there were some suspension revisions to the later ones, which might improve compliance on rough roads. No idea if that's true though. |

For me the exhaust sound was a crucial determining factor in my decision on what MY X3 M40I to get. My ‘19 M40I sounds soooo amazingly good in sport. It’s so clean and not obnoxious. I like the newer LCI as well but I personally love the look of the pre LCI X3. You can update the newer tail lights on the pre LCI ones to update the look. If you get a 20-24 M40I just be advised you will have extreme exhaust note envy when you hear an older one in sport mode.
