X3 G01 reliability issues
Hi all!
I'm thinking of buying an used X3 G01 and I want to find out more about this model. So what is your opinion about the G01 version in terms of reliability? Of course, I know that any used car can have problems, but I'm interested in what specific problems / issues this model has, and how expensive are the repairs? By specific problems I mean something like the noise in the steering box from previous F models, or the EGR cooler that needs to be changed on many F models, etc., etc. Thanks in advance for the answers to the topic. |

I have had three X3's, the previous two had no problems whatsoever, my current G01 is the best by far and has also given me no problems, in fact it's the best of the three in every respect.
The only issue i have haad as have many others on this forum is the dash/Sat Nav dimming which BMW have n intention of resolving, despite that I would have another G01 |

Mine is the 20i Msport. 2.5 years in, no issues whatsoever. Car drives and feels like it left the showroom yesterday. I previously had an F25 30d which was excellent - the G01 is even better.

Regarding the dash dimming problem, could you clarify "BMW have n intention of resolving" ? I don't understand what did you mean. Also, this problem can be fixed by the user? Is there a fix available? |

Their final sentennce included the words "we have signalled this problem up to the highest echelon in BMW and we are doing nothing to resolve it" So, there was no point me wasting my time chasing them. What really bothers me is that there are many on this forum that have this problem and if you read the many posts, not many have done anything about it, they have just accepted rhere is a problem. If everyone complained both in the US and UK/Europe maybe they would have done somrthing about it |

I have a '18 X3 xDrive30i with 86k miles that we bought new. Zero issues other than tire changes and replacing consumables like brakes and tires. It's been the best car we ever owned.
I just picked up a '19 X3 M40i a month ago, only put 500 miles on it so far but it's a rocket.

I believe there is already a thread like this. Might worth to look it up.
Mine is '18 xdrive30, and TCU (telematic unit) had to be replaced, saw a few other members have it done too. Sympton: warning Emergency call system malfunction, and remote services doesn't work. This was the only issue I ever had and involved dealing with the dealer to get it resolved. Vibration (rear axle, shaft) were reported as stated earlier, limited to MY18/19 I believe. This wasn't fully resolved if I'm not mistaken. Not widespread. Beware of the missing side bolster adjustment when having' ventilated seats. This is strongly personal issue/preference. Test ride highly recommended. Some find the seats not comfortable - again, personal preference. I don't have ventilated seats, and the comfort might be better, but it's ok for me. Whether "ok" is enough with this type of a car is a different story. Loads of threads about the seats here. These were probably the biggest problems with G01 so far.

But other than that, I'm very happy with this car - it's the best I've ever owned by far. Anyhow - back in January I did see that "Emergency call system malfunction" message. It only happened once, and I've not seen it again. I'm wondering if I need to worry about that as it was bought as an Approved Used BMW from a BMW dealer in High Wycombe so the one year warranty expires in December. If that TCU unit is an expensive repair, then I'd like to try to get it done under warranty - but as I only saw the error once, six months ago, how can I do that? Would that error still be recorded? |

Some are still using older naming. 4.0 is 40i, or M40i, and yes, that's a reference to engine.

After several Audi A6’s and a 2017 530d x drive I got the X3 M40d in Oct 2019 and not not any real issues, no rattles or faults of significance
Had exhaust replaced for peeling paint on tailpipes On Monday is is having fix for occasional “squeak” noise from rear shaft seals Overall no dealer visits to fix minor issues like all previous cars, including the 530 for rattles, noise from idrive screen and fuel flap catch fault etc, so I’m very pleased with build quality from South Africa |

I only have 2769 miles so far on my 2021 m40i, but no issues. My wife’s 2020 X5 has 16842 miles on it and no issues. Got to love the instant mile availability of the My BMW app lol. I generally keep my cars for 10 years, and my 2011 328xi was that best car I’ve owned, so I have no worries of longevity with the 2 I have now. The B48 engine and ZF transmissions have been rock solid. I always try to wait at least 3 model years so that any bugs get worked out before I buy new.

OP- There is thread on “issues” with dozen and dozens of G01 owners weighing in. It’s a really comprehensive over view that you’ll want to read over.
You’ll quickly deduce there are a handful of issues that are very common with G01’s (moonroof rattles, front seat base squeaks etc.). Some owners have gotten lucky with perfect vehicles but most don’t. Based on personal experience, I’d say buy a G01 if you want a sporty, fun SUV but if reliability literally tops your priority list you’d be crazy to get any BMW in the first place. You just have to be willing to accept a fair amount of issues with German car manufacturers. |
