Wheels look good. Mind sharing how much it cost to do?

I also really like the look of the X4 and prefer it to the X3. Only issue that I have with the X4 M40i over the X3 M40i is the non-M steering wheel.

You removed one a$s shot that I really liked. You can tell that you are standing in your pics.. I like ones that are taken from a little higher elevation, I think they give a better representation imo.
Restored.

Thank you! No plans for now. I have the black side grilles on order and some 15mm spacers. That's about it.

Thanks! Sure thing, it was $500 to get them professionally powdercoated. These guys do great work. I've sent about a dozen of my cars there over the years.

$500 seems very reasonable. Wonder if I can find a similar price around here.

How long were you without the vehicle while the powder coating was done?

Ya know, I thought I preferred cerium grey on carbon black but after seeing yours with the darker grill and trim pieces I'm not so sure anymore. I'm on the fence between sticking with grey trim and trying to match wheel color or black out the trim and get darker wheels. Hmmmmmmmm, you got me thinkin'.. thanks for the post!

first "off road" drive!

Had to rescue one of our company trucks after breaking down. Drove the X3 off road for about 50 feet!

hahaha

Just a few hours actually! Dropped it off on my way into the office. Picked it up at 4:30pm that same day. It was a beautiful thing.

Thank you! I too, like yourself was on the fence about how it would look. I figured I would just go for it because I love the way gloss black wheels look especially when they're clean. I think everything ties together nicely.

I reached out to the local dealership to see if they had any local recommendations for a place to do the powder coating. They said they have a guy that can do the work at the dealership...however at a cost of $1,600 for all four!

You were given a quote that included a 'dealership middleman premium'. The powder coat need to be applied and baked with special equipment so I'm not sure your dealer has them. The only value you may expect is when something goes wrong, the dealer may kinda stand behind the work. :

Engineering Explained has a YouTube video about Powder coating rims, and they filmed the process with the help of a shop in the Phoenix area. The whole multi step process is legit and consistent with how a good powder coating should be done. You may want to check out that particular shop.

I also called my local dealer and they wanted $250/wheel to powdercoat my 19" 698M wheels. The cheapest I was able to find in my area is about $175/wheel.

I knew there would be a premium via the dealership but figured like you said there might be a little bit of a "warranty" factor that way. Had no idea it would be that much of a premium though!

Good find on the video. I'll have to check out that shop.

I was expecting a price of about $200/wheel when I initially put in the request but to have them come back at double that was crazy.

Of course I would! Not 100% set on doing it though. Part of me really likes how it looks now but another part of me wants the wheels to match all the other gloss black parts.

One other downside is that they said they have a turn around time of 2-4 business days which would be tough since I'm the primary chauffeur to the kids. A rental car would be a necessity then.

@chicagofan00 If the shop does follow all the proper steps as shown in that video, then 2-4 days is not unexpected. I'd rather they take the time and do it right then skipping steps to get it 'finished' in a day. A lousy paint job may result in premature paint failure such as flaking after exposure to the environment (akin to what many of us see in our exhaust tips).

Anyway, your car would look good in either OEM 21" or blacked-out rims.
