Remote locking with "My BMW" app
Today, I noticed that when I use the "My BMW" app to remotely lock my 2020 X3 the red alarm light, on the rear view mirror, which normally blinks when my car is locked....does NOT blink. However, IF I lock the car using the key FOB, while standing near the car, the red alarm light will begin blinking. Shouldn't the alarm system be activated no matter if the car is locked by using the app or by using the key FOB?
Does this happen to other owners? Is this normal? The BMW Genius, I called, had no answers and directed me to take it into the dealer. Any thoughts? |

I also noticed that the mirrors did not fold in, when using the app. I was notified of these issues on this forum.

Well....mirrors folding would be nice too, but I think activating the alarm system is more important. I think the alarm system should be activated ANYTIME the car is locked, no matter what method is used. Locked is locked and the alarm should be activated!

My thoughts exactly. Mine works the same way. Normal? No. By design? Yes. Sadly.

Yep, my X5 folds the mirrors, but the X3 doesn’t?

Should be pretty easy to test if the alarm is activated. Park your X3, leave a window down, and don't lock it. Step out and lock it from your phone with the app. Then reach through the open window and open a door with the inside handle. Alarm should go off.
Easier to test it yourself in an empty parking lot than to go to the dealer. Or go test it in the dealer's parking lot. |

The alarm can be on without the clown nise blinking. Without the blinking red light the interior and motion sensors are off. This is to allow locking when on a ferry - or with a dog inside (weather permitting).

If I'm not mistaken, even in that case the light is blinking

No, nonblinking means the motion and interior sensors are off. Just went through that on a ferry ride.

Still doesn't explain WHY it would be designed or "mis-designed" to do that.
When would someone want the car locked, BUT NOT fully alarmed inside and out?.......my guess is the app is just not functioning correctly and needs fixing. |
