Aftermarket hands free/keyless entry?
I know it's a small thing to be annoyed about, but my new X3 doesn't have keyless/hands free entry. My Acura had it and I got used to never having to dig for my keys, just put my hand on the handle and I was in. I had thought this car had it but it seems not.
I'm less than a week into having this car (and I was on vacation for half of that) and it's already bumming me out that it doesn't have it, especially when my hands are full. Does anyone know if there's any kind of aftermarket option?

It's the last option I'd want. I ordered specifically without it. Neighbour had his Merc stolen last year via the keyless scanning thingies. It's so easy to steal one of these it might as well not be locked. And yes, I know the latest versions turn the key off after a period of inactivity - that doesn't stop someone scanning you when you enter or leave the car at home, in a mall, whatever.

It's a bit inconvenient to carry a small bag to store the fob, but I think it's worth the convenience of making it easier for me to open the car's doors and that solution works really well on blocking the fob signal. I just tested keeping the fob on my jeans pocket inside that small Faraday bag/case and I couldn't open the doors or the trunk - using the kick-to-open feature - while I was standing just besides the car. From user darrylo, with key word search "faraday bag":
"X3's built after late March-ish 2018 have the "stops sending out signals" fob. No need for a faraday cage for these. If you're unsure what you have, here is how you can tell: https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showp...3&postcount=35" - I still argue that you need a faraday cage as thieves are also aware that it takes about 5 minutes for the key fob to stop sending signals, and that's their window of opportunity. - Has anyone come with a permanent solution as to solid, long-lasting faraday pouches? I have had two this past year and both failed after a few months. |

Faraday cages don’t help. You use what’s known as a roll jam to hack these. It both listens to the correct signal (and steals it) while jamming the cars receiving it by jamming the band locally. Then when the hacker is ready replays the correct signal. Once it’s stolen one it replays the oldest while stealing a new one to pretend everything is working normally.

Anyhow that only opens the car, it won't start it. |

Open your key and look at the coding as per the pic. It can be retro fitted, and when mine was done BMW paid 70% cost of new keys.
That said, mine has had the keys done, is behind gates, has a disclok and have GAP insurance. There's not much more can be done to cut down the risk, but making it hard opens the option for thieves to target less protected car. Dont get paranoid about it. |

Live and learn for the next five years I suppose. As for the other comments about stealing cars from scanning the remote, there are far more interesting cars where I live than stealing than a X3.

Here too. My neighbour has a new McLaren 650S. The Merc GLE up the street is way less interesting. The Merc is keyless and way easier to steal, and was. The McLaren, and 3 Porsches were ignored. I think it's less about interesting and more about how easy it is to steal.
