Ordered my new X3 M40i today/Break-in question

Hello Everyone!

Ordered my 2020 X3 M40 just a few days ago. I am moving away from a 2017 340i and frankly a bit worried I will miss it. Kids and wife have convinced me I need to switch out of my 340i (with only 19K miles).

Black Sapphire Metallic
19" M Double-spoke bi-color wheels, style 698M with performance run-flat tires
Carbon Fiber trim
Driving Assistance Package
Driving Assistance Plus Package
Executive Package
Adaptive M Suspension
M Sport Differential
Acoustic glass
Rear manual side window shades
Trailer Hitch
Wireless Charging and WiFi Hotspot
Harman Kardon surround sound system
Space-saver spare
Front and Rear Heated Seats

I'm planning on picking the car up from the South Carolina Performance Center however live near Washington DC. Will the engine break in properly if I drive the car 8 hours back home? Assuming long as I vary the speed and not use cruise control I should be okay?

You will be fine. With the various stops you make anyway, you will vary the speed plenty. They will advise you at the Performance Center about it.

What is the recommended break-in drive? I am picking my car up this from out-of-state and have a 400 mile trip back.

We did the same thing. We picked it up at the Performance Center and drove it back to Leesburg. I was worried, but we hit a good amount of traffic so our speed varied a lot. Also, once you get home you still have 700 miles to continue varying speeds.
