Winter tires or Conti DWS 06 for my BMW X3 xDrive28i
I am trying to decide between getting a new winter set, Michelin X Ice Vs. the Conti DWS 06 A/S for my BMW X3. I live in Philadelphia suburbs so we don't get as much snow. Also, my commute is mainly all main roads and I usually tend to work from home on snow/icy days.
The ongoing costs of swapping and remounting tires ($100 per swap) is it worth it? Also, BTW my X3 came with Goodyear Eagle LS2 and I hate them! they are so sensitive to even the slightest of the road bumps or variations! Inputs appreciated! Thank you!! |

If you'll never encounter real snow and ice, then the DWS's will work fine - especially after enduring those awful GY LS2's that seem to be made of granite. It's been my experience with the Continentals that they have a very supple ride with little or no noise. It will seem like a new car once the run flats are off.

I prefer winter tires in winter, even if its "just in case" I have to drive and the roads havent been cleared of snow.

I liked the Conti DWS 06 on both my 335ix and X3. I like you do not go out when there is ice or more than 5 inches of snow. If I had an extra set of wheels, I would do Michelin Ice X tires. Running non run flats makes a huge difference.

I just got a set of Blizzak WS-90 and Rial X10 wheels from TireRack for under $1400. These are not run-flats. (Can't stand them.) I went with a 17" fitment with slightly narrower tires for winter. So far I like them although I haven't had to drive them in sloppy weather yet.
235/60R-17 Blizzak WS-90 Rial X10 17x7.5 (OE size. Centerbore and offset correct. Accepts BMW center caps.) TPM sensors Mounted and balanced Now I have summer and winter wheel sets. |

Just today I picked up and bolted on a set of MSW wheels and Conti Viking Contacts for similar cost. Ironically got caught in a snowstorm on the way back from TireRack - Sliding around with an X3 full of snow tires. The Goodyear Eagle Tourings (non-RFT) have been pretty impressive but did not like the snow at all. The Vikings are a huge improvement in the white stuff.

nothing beats a winter wheel setup.
But if you dont want to spend the $$$, DWS06 are good. I had them on my F25, F26 with no issues. MY G01 has duelers, when its time to replace them. I will go with DWS06 |

I got Michelin X-ice Xi3 fitted. Hope I made the right choice. It feels squirmy, but not sure how it will be in rain. Does anyone have experience with driving it in rain with 50 temps?

Yeah, they'll wear out more quickly in warmer temperatures, but they should not be a handicap in rain.
