After just 1000 miles I noticed the leather on the base of the seat was becoming deformed and since then it has got progressively worse. It now has a pronounced wave formation after 4000 miles. Is this normal? No I'm not overweight! and the same has happened on the passenger seat.

I have 20K on my X3 and no deformity. Take it back to your selling dealer and they can replace the seat covers. I have heard of this happening before, and in all cases they have been replaced under Warranty - especially with only 1000 miles on the clock.

I have had the same problem on my car, it's only 16 months old and done 16k miles. The right side drivers bolster has basically collapsed.

I had it serviced at Partridges in Chandlers Ford earlier this month and they have agreed to replace it under warranty but they want the car for two days to do it.

I complained about the wear on the seats last week, my car is 3 years old on the 29th, I said the leather was not wearing well at all and they replaced the seat yesterday without any questions.
So I think they know they may have a few issues.

I almost bought a car from Aberdeen,Scotland that had this wave to both front seats. It's more common than i realised.

My car went in to have the seat fixed on Monday, got a call Monday lunchtime to say they had fitted the new bolster but couldn't get the leather seat base to fit over it so they were ordering a new one which would be in on Tuesday.

Tuesday lunchtime I get a call to say they now can't get the heated seat element separated from the old leather seat base so they had to order a new one which will be in on Wednesday.

Hope they are successful in sorting this on Wednesday as they gave me an I3 as a courtesy car and it will be flat by then

What does this "wave deformity" look like? My X3 is 2.5 months old and I think I'm seeing this "wave." Is it near the rear stitching on the seat and runs the width of the seat; like a small valley in the seat?

Anyone with a pic?

I'm surprised no one requested/posted pics yet. I think my seat has this wave also but it's minor and doesn't bother me. I'm more afraid of any rips or tears in the leather.

The bolsters on the sport seats are just too aggressive imho, the centre section needs to be an inch wider.

Here is how my driver seat is. I got my car new sept 2013 currently has 20k miles. I'm 5'10inch 180lbs. Passenger side is perfect as no one ever sits there. I think my seat is holding up well. Has a minor wave but I think that's expected on any leather seat.

In case anyone is wondering what that black line on the bottom of the seat is. It's the back seat cover elastic band so my son doesn't dirty the back of my seat. I have the back cover on both seats.
