Real or Fake
There are now manufacturers creating actual carbon fiber console replacements. These are really nice but they cost upwards of 1k. When I was looking for this there was only ABS overlays. It cost 99. I used the 900 saving to get an Evolution mid pipe. What would you chose and why.
Things to consider -Carbon Fiber is lighter than plastic -Carbon Fiber is stronger than ABS -The console does not need to be stronger than stock -The addition 4-5 oz weight savings Please look at the below 2 picture and vote for which you think is real 1 or 2k |

The market dictates what people are willing to pay. Unsure of the purpose of this post other than to shit on how people decide to spend their money, given your bullet points above

Not at all. I really want to see what people think. I dare say most will want the CF but really want to know why. I like the CF but I’m struggling with wether it’s really worth it for a cosmetic part.

It would drive me crazy to feel physical ridge from OEM trim to overlay, especially on an $85k car. Maybe I'm also jaded from seeing every 350Z with "carbon" overlays 15 years ago |

The picture on the left or top if viewing with phone, is 100% fake CF - its sticker. The other picture is my car lol. I took a gamble with the group buy but not without doing some homework. Yes it pricey but so are the CF mirror caps or anything CF. I couldnt be happier with the purchase - you can see the weaves! It matches the car's CF trim perfectly as if it came like that. All those sticker CF just looks cheap af.

The only person that fake CF would fool would be my grandma. I could show her it and she would say it's beautiful.
CF is just that CF. LOL. Any actual car person including us the owners know its fake and plastic. There is a market for both types which is ok. But point of this post can you really tell? Of course we can.

to each their own i suppose.
i saw the ABS stick on version from ali and couldve gotten it for $30 shipped (you overpaid a tiny bit btw ). i’ll be honest it looked pretty bad in their photos but the ones you have above look pretty damn good and convincing. had i known it looked decent i wouldve gotten it in the first place and be done with it. that being said, i saw the indiv version and knew i had to get it right away. they’ve been producing parts for the G20 platform and came to great success with their G8X CF air vent in partnership with iND, so i knew their quality would be on point. honestly, the price was pretty fair. it wouldve been nearly the same amount had i sourced my own center console trim and having it wet layed in CF… assuming $150 for the trim, a couple more hundred bucks for the CF and labor from a reputable source, shipping costs in between… going the indiv route is so much easier. hell, rgsport is coming out with his own version which looks just as good in terms of quality. cant go wrong either way. hell ive spent thousands of dollars more on the akra exhaust, eventuri intake, and all the other mods on my car, and i have more ‘useless’ shit on the way… whats a few hundred bucks on a center console trim that i actually get to see and appreciate when i sit in the car? you can skimp here and there when it comes to modding the car, but the interior is where you spend the MOST time in your vehicle. others may not notice, but you will. spare no expense in my opinion.

All the power to you folks who have the means to buy really expensive parts like the Akro exhaust. I’m able to afford my X3 MC but not too much else. Oh, and thanks to Ftpohyea for ruining the poll. Now everyone knows which is ABS. Thanks man 😉 (J/K) I did post this in the wrong thread and a few folks thought the ABS was the real one. I tried to turn my picture around but people thought I switched them so started this thread. This poll was just for fun. Not trying to demean the folks who purchased the real CF console. Who knows, I may go this way in the future. Peace. |

I got the real one on my car and i love the look of it. Is it worth it? HELLLLLL TO THE NO. Way to expensive for a interior piece. Looking at your pic I pay of purchased that over lay tbh. I just couldn't stand the gloss black and pulled the trigger on the CF piece.

It is certainly a matter of money spent for it. Is it super nice? Yeah! Is it quality stuff? Certainly! Is it worth giving 900usd? For some yes, for most it would certainly be an overkill. Give me though a similar item with 400-450usd and I think everyone will rush to get it

I don’t take anything said here personally. This is supposed to be fun. If I took things personally I would not bother spending time here. If you took in personally I can’t help that. We have an amazing SAV so we all have that in common. Have a beer and chill dude. It’s almost Friday!😁 |

It’s been a dream of mine to own a M car. Most expensive thing I’ve ever purchased aside from my home. I just don’t have cash to go real CF for ornamental interior stuff. That said I truly hate piano black. One fingerprint sticks out to me like a sore thumb. I find piano black with scratches and fingerprints bother my OCD worse than the ABS overlay. If I get 900 to spend on my car it will be either for go fast parts or upgrading the audio as even with the HK I need bass. Not the almost bass that those 8” subs put out. Same here. |

Full disclosure I did buy the actual carbon fiber piece and for me it was worth the money. It is an area of the car I will see every day. I suppose if I only had $900 to spend I would have chosen something else but I assume I will be in for quite a bit more money before I am done changing things. And I agree these cars aren't Koenigseggs but they aren't Kia Sportages either which is why decided not to slap stickers on it.

I think it's a point of purpose. One, you're getting rid of the piano black which it seems a lot of car enthusiasts do not enjoy. And two, if you're going to put carbon on the car I'd think most would agree it should be real carbon. To each their own, but I don't understand the fake Carbon look. It physically looks different. It doesn't have the same shine, it doesn't have the same 3D depth under the surface. It just looks like grey and black in a pattern on some plastic.

Too much carbon in my opinion. I realize that people might dislike me for saying that, but I thought that area was fine stock. Yes, the piano black is smudgy, but I could never justify spending $900 on a carbon trim piece.
I did put a carbon Aerobon spoiler on my RS3 for $250, and that was well worth it, but $900 is too much. |
