CarPlay cuts out on 2020 X3 M
All,
I'm having an issue where I'm listening to CarPlay and all of a sudden it cuts out. I've noticed the attached image pops up on the HUD when this happens. It will eventually go away on its own after while, or I can hit the voice button on the steering wheel and it will go away. Best I can tell it's interrupting because it thinks I'm doing voice control from my mobile device (Apple 12 Pro). But I'm definitely not doing anything to initiate it. I talked to an SA at BMW and he suggested deleting the phone from my devices in the car, updating the device, and re-adding it. Unfortunately that did not fix it. It only happens when I'm using CarPlay. If I try to issue a voice command while it's happening, it does nothing. Thanks for your ideas. |

I'm glad you mentioned this because I was never aware of it until now. In fact, the infotainment HD of my 2020 has never rebooted since I've ever owned it. So this could explain some of the random (iPOD connected through USB port) drop off issues. Only time will tell I guess.

Well I was hopeful after doing the 30-second reset that this issue would go away. I performed the reset on 3/6/24 at lunch and didn't have the issue the rest of the day.
The issue reappeared 3/7/24 on the way home from work. Then again on 3/8/24 on the way to work. The same issue as before (typing it out so it shows up in the search): Voice Contr./mob.dev. Any other ideas of what this could be? |

Some of the solution I've done in the pass was to reboot the phone, reset network settings on the phone (this will wipe all Wi-Fi settings).
When you reset your network settings, it will delete all network-related data stored on your device. This includes Wi-Fi passwords, saved Bluetooth connections, VPN information, and network preferences. They will all be restored to their default factory values, and your device will not remember any network names, login information, or paired devices. Once you reset network settings, you will manually have to enter login information and pair your devices once again. That's is what I would try as well. |

A few things to report since my last post.
1. I took my car in to replace a lighting module and mentioned this issue to the SA. He said they would provide an update to the "back screen". Did not fix the issue. 2. Based on @CenCal X3M Comp's suggestions, I went one further. I bought a new iPhone 15 Pro and thought for sure the issue would go away. Alas, the issue remains. It only happens when I'm in CarPlay playing music. It happens both in Pandora and in Amazon Music. It does NOT happen when I'm in Maps. Although it's not the end of the world, it's certainly frustrating and happens very frequently. Just keeping this thread going in case anyone has any ideas, also so Google scans it and someone may end up searching for it. Thanks again for any feedback. |
