Soooo... I wussed out.
I'm decently handy. Exhaust/mid-pipe on my M4 and X3M. Lowered both cars w/ Eibach, four-spring kits (X3M was kinda an asswhipping).
Put an RChip in the M4. Kindy snug/tricky. Not bad. RChip on the X3M was a no-go. Last night got the car apart - that lower/boost "A" connection was just a no-go. First, not even sure the one I worked on was it, then was able to get the green/white locking tab loose, I think .. still no go, tried again to loosen that locker from above w/ a long flat head and the locking tab went flying. If you have the connection in front of you, a pick can still be used to loosen the connection - in this case, not being able to see..no way. So, stopped, re- assembled all. I think I need to page Oldgixxer and check on the Charlotte shop. |

I’m about to do the install myself, but with JB4. From what I’ve read, the trick is to take off the driver-side wheel and plastic trim panel. Then, turn the wheel all the way to the right to give yourself the best clearance to access the TMAP sensor. You’ll need a long pair of needle-nose pliers as well.

It's sad how much that one connection makes what should be a quick and painless installation nearly impossible. Broke one of the clips during my install, but it's stayed connected thus far.
Hindsight being what it is, I may have opted to stay stock til I got the DME unlocked for a proper tune. Don't feel bad, you're not the first nor the last that will go through hell doing the install lol |

I think** if you break one of the snapping in/out locking tabs, you are still okay. I've done that once before, just had to use a 90degree pick to release the overall clip. It was still snug after snapping the two fittings together. Yeah, idk - I will not unlock this car. I like "safe" (lol) piggy backs. BMW add's 50bhp w/ CS and CSL tunes - so, adding 50+ or so w/ a JB4 or RC seems like an easy call. |

Just to update:
Yes, it is in. The wheel method is key. The RC video coming from the bottom is a joke. The instructions/xeroxed-copied are a bit of a joke. Wheel off, take off the wheel liner panel (I think there are about 8, 8mm screws). You have to look up at it from the bottom, forward. I have a four post lift, but I did this on the floor, w/ front jackstands. I broke off the green/white locking tab on first venture. The connector snaps on from rear, facing front. The locking tab/is on top. There is a Kies video whereby he unsnaps the locking tab and inserts a 90degree pic (in this case facing rearward) under the locking tab. That is what I did, came right off. Just FYI. And Bruichladdich(classic laddie) is the celebratory elixir. Last edited by M4Lou; 03-12-2024 at 08:21 PM.. |

If you go to the 10min mark, he shows you how to get unclipped if in a tough location (works if the white locker is gone, too). THIS*** is a really good video of a piggy back on a G80/82. The RC dudes could take lessons. Good piggy w/ bad instructions.. |
