Apple Car Play Startup
Anyone else using Apple Car Play find that a lot of the time it takes a really long time to show up on the screen.
I discovered that if I update BMW Assist in the Connected Drive menu it Car Play pops right up. |

Immediate for me...even sometimes before I get in the car.
But I also find that if I get in my car and my phone is still connected to a wifi network (like at Starbucks, Whole Foods, friend's house, etc) then my phone won't connect to carplay. Sometimes it will connect once I drive away, sometimes I have to manually connect it. |

X4 30i here with Same situation. Sometimes immediate connection sometimes it takes it's own time sometimes it doesn't even connect. So I go into the CarPlay settings and toggle it off/ on. And it connects but sometimes I have to delete the profiles from the phone and car and add it back which is a hit and miss situation for a few days. After which surprise Apple car play connects back automatically. Until next time the whole process is repeated.

II have iDrive 7 and got it updated to a newer version in January. After the update all the phone related problems are gone. So I suggest you get you iDrive 7 software updated. My car gut delivered with i-Stufe 07-19. In January I got the 11-19 update. I heard a new release iStufe 03-20 is out since last week. So talk to your dealer and get the iDrive i-Stufe updated. |

I found the other day going into your wifi settings on the phone and just selecting the CarPlay wifi network makes it connect. Seems that sometimes it struggles to drop the home wifi and connect to the CarPlay one, in my case anyway

When mine does not start immediately I just press the microphone button on the steering and it pops up right away. Then press it again to shut Siri up.

CarPlay connects immediately for me and iDrive starts wherever it was when I last turned the car off.
Not to hijack this thread, but I do have a related issue . . . I usually have Waze up on the center screen and keep the map zoomed in pretty close. However, every time I start the car and Waze pops up, it's zoomed much further out. And there's no rhyme or reason to the zoom setting that it starts out at. Sometime only a few clicks in gets the map back to where I like it, and other times it takes 7 or 8 clicks in. Do others have this same problem? Is there any solution to how to get the Waze map to display consistently on start-up?

I just moved from a '19 with ID6 to a '20 with ID7 and while I had a huge issue with this in my '19 I haven't had much of a problem with it all on the '20. Seems to connect immediately 90% whereas on the '19 there were times I would need to toggle CarPlay off and then back on to get it to connect.

I, too, am trying to figure our why carplay does not start or even show up every time. I did note a warning that came up, which I forgot to write down, about other Bluetooth devices connected will limit something or another. Could there be something on my iphone that I need to shut down? My guess is is something I have set on my phone that is causing this problem.
UPDATE: I just noticed that my phone is connecting to the BMW by Pandora or just my music collection on the phone. Does someone know how to fix settings so it will connect for carplay and not Pandora or other music? Last edited by Radar314; 03-13-2020 at 12:20 PM.. |

Two ACP questions - at one point Sirius/XM was showing song titles when using ACP, song titles are now gone, what gives? Also, how do i change the default music that comes on at startup, it's defaulting to the same annoying song from my Apple music list which I never listen to. Thanks.

I reset the computer and then it worked. Push the volume button in for about 20-30 seconds until the screen goes black and then let go. The screen will then reboot/reset. After resetting, I connectedthe X3 to the iPhone through the usual method and then it worked. |

Same carplay connecting issues with my X3 (manufactured this January) with ID6 and my Iphone XS iOS 13.4.:
- at first everything was right, connected, showed up etc. - after a few days it connected, but did not show up. I tried everything, nothing happened. Next morning worked - this weekend connected, showed up, but started lagging (waze, youtube music, menu-navigation, podkicker) Maybe I should ask the dealer to reinstall headunit software. Any idea? The "S" idrive update introduced start up problems with CarPlay. Occasionally I experience that CarPlay is not loaded and pressing the media button does nothing
Strangely enough pressing the front camera button twice (turn front camera on and then back off) causes CarPlay to start immediately... go figure... |

I had a delay as well, and BMW genius indicated if the Iphone had been connected to another wifi spot (e.g, home wifi), it won't switch over and start car play until you are out of range of the other wifi spot. I also have an Android phone (Samsung S7), which I wanted to be the default (primary) phone when opening the car with Key 1, and if using Key2 (my wifes), I was having it default to her Iphone. But no matter which key I use, when we are both in the car, it defaults to the Samsung phone and I have to switch devices manually.
