I agree. It seems like the previous driving mode rocker switch was a more solid design, but I can see how that would be problematic with the added "Individual" modes that are now available. Seems like individual buttons for Sport, Comfort, and Eco (and Adaptive) would have been a better implementation, but I am guessing that cost/aesthetics were the driving factors.

There is a setting in idrive that allows/approves that you can talk over the Voice.

In other words, as "she" is talking back to you giving options, you can talk and get "her" to do the next step without waiting for her to shut up.
I was having real difficulty trying to get "her" to understand where I wanted to go. On about the sixth request, out of frustration I swore at her while she was talking.

She immediately offered to take me to a small village in Austria .

Garage List
-Writing with my finger using the touchpad on top of the iDrive selector knob
-The alarm goes off if I leave something (like a radar detector) plugged into the OBD port
-TPM tells me to fill the tires to different pressures than listed on the inside of the door depending on tire temp
-There's a car wash setting that helps line the tires up in the tracks, in case I decide to abuse my car by driving it through an automated car wash for some reason
-I've been conditioned to look to the center console for the lock/unlock button, and have a moment of panic when I realize I don't know what I'm doing

For those of us who live in the UK/Europe I wonder if that can also be used as a "Boarding the EuroTunnel" setting?

If there are multiple numbers for that person say the number. If it is the second in the list, say "2".

It will ask you to record.

Record your message. Then, stop talking.

It will give you to options. Send Text or Add text.

"send text" will send the text.
"Add text" will get you back to the record and it will append to the end of the previous message.

If, at some point you don't like a word or the whole statement, use the idrive knob to move through the sentence, then, you can add, delete, append, etc. But, I have found it too tricky, so I just start over.

But, the key is:
"send text Paul Glasspoole"
"2"
Dictate
"Send Text"

I love it when driving across country and need to tell people where I am.

First off, I apologize if I'm here. However, I tried yesterday to get my iPhone X to work with the old-fashioned iDrive texting....and no dice. I have Apple CarPlay available in the car, but even when switching the configuration of the mobile device over to use iDrive and not CarPlay, it tells me that my mobile device is not compatible for this function. I made sure that bluetooth was connected, and not Wi-Fi, but still no luck.

Has anyone else been able to get an iOS device working with iDrive texting when Apple CarPlay is built in the car?

I believe the only option, which to me and my iPhone 6s has been an acceptable one, is to long-press the voice button to engage Siri to dictate and send the text.

I also find working directly with Siri is easier, faster and less error-prone, especially since I have been using Siri a lot beforehand and Siri probably 'remember' those past experience which makes her smarter to work with!

I also just found out that the wireless charging tray comes with a signal booster if you registering it with your cell carrier. It seems it will not boost otherwise, although I'm not 100% on the won't work if not registered piece.

Radar detector in OBD2 Port? That's a new one... I know if I leave something like my OBD2 scanner plugged in the alarm goes off, why is yours connected to the OBD2?

Thanks. My X3 seems to lose air pressure fast. I got the low air pressure warning twice in less than 2,000 miles. It's only about 2-4 psi, but still, seems a bit abnormal. Currently, I don't drive the car enough to be worried enough to bring it in.

I can't recall ever having to add air in on the original tires for any other car. Even my last BMW. Certainly never after putting on Costco tires where they inflate with nitrogen. But I've never had run flats before either.

It's the power source instead of hard wiring it or having it plugged into the 12V jack. I was trying to go with a clean, stowed look instead of the 12V, but didn't want to put in the effort of hard wiring. Seems I'll have to hard wire for my desired results...

Actually it was surprisingly easy. Only took a couple pumps to raise a few PSI. My cheap portable air compressor took a dump.
Nice tip and good to know what to do in a pinch... Low profile tires need less air to raise the PSI vs regular tires I guess...

Spent some time reading about twin scroll turbo chargers. I actually thought there were two separate turbo chargers. Extremely well done youtube videos on how the turbo works. Now I understand why the tubo lag almost does not exist. Great engineering.

First I read about maybe having to register the signal booster with a cell carrier. I bet if I called my carrier (Verizon), they will laugh at the idea?

If you rotate your head a bit like a puzzled canine, it comes back into view. Not saying that's a good option, but it works.

You can also rotate the HUD in the iDrive settings to help see the display with polarized eyewear. For the record I hate polarized lenses for anything except boating.
