2020 M40 CD Player?

Is there supposed to be a cd player in the 2020 M40? 2019 has one. I use it for my phone holder.

I did find out that the USB port will at least take a 256GB exFAT thumb drive, and it works with NTFS as well

Yes 256GB is maximum for USB which is ok, but i also like the option to rip old CDs with the drive to the cars internal harddisc.

The HDD is too small, partly because I prefer to use FLAC though it's not necessary. I manage my files based music at home and really don't want the extra (minor) hassle of having FLAC and MP3. I have two 256gb usb sticks in use with over 1,000 albums plus a few on the HDD. BMW could have fitted a 1TB drive for peanuts.

Sides splitting. Glad mines got CD player as standard, kids still enjoy picking out dvd's from their collection to watch in the car when we get chance.

Not everything needs to be digital, vinyl making a big comeback too. Nice to have physical stuff to touch and see.

I agree about the physical contact with media. Indeed I have two record decks, a Garrard 301 and Trans-Fi Salvation - for me vinyl never went away.

I have files playback too for digial...which is good in the car, for video too - this is a transition time between physical digital media, streaming and in-between (usb).

I recall a portable record player my sister used on holidays in the car (60s/70s). It had a massive spring to hold down the tone arm. I dread to think how much pressure was used - it must have re-cut the records.

I also agree. I had video-in-motion coded in my last car and we carried around a little CD carrier of DVDs in the glovebox. I was sad when I saw that my new car would not have the player.

I use it for the phone holder. It slides into the slot and is a great location for the phone. A couple silly replies without reading the question.

I also use the CD slot in my other cars as a cellphone holder. However the silly part of this post is asking for a specific CD slot in the year 2020. Maybe car manufacturers should start implementing a cell phone holder built into the interior.

"Hypergear" windshield suction mount works great! Bought one for every car in the family. Check on amazon. CD mount is silly.

I wasnt expecting it not to be there coming from a 19 to a 20 same exact car. I thought everything was identical besides the live cockpit. I ordered an vent mount thats identical to the cd mount i have.
