Shift speed depends on throttle input?

Maybe I'm wrong, but when I'm paddle-shifting in S3 mode, shifts seem slower when I'm not on the throttle. For example, going from 2 --> 3 is noticeably slower when poking around town, vs. at full throttle, which are really fast. Why is this? Or am I wrong?

It also seems like some shifts just happen faster. The 1 --> 2 shift is always faster than 2 --> 3.

I'm sure there is a dynamic change according to throttle, you dont need fast shifts when your in granny mode or traffic. Ask Rodney Mc'Kay if theres science behind it

S3 in town means I'm never caught out in a 2nd-gear-low-RPM-no-power mode.

Sadly, living in Chicago, the closest fun driving roads are about 3 hours away. Hammering at lights is all I got. Otherwise I might as well just drive my wife's Accord.
