I discovered the only reason I was looking at the X3 was because of all the sharp looking X5 vehicles in my town. I love the look of the X5 and thought the X3 was just a smaller one. I agree with you, it's a compromise. So much so, the Q5 is a better alternative for me. The 3 GT however looks like a fantastic alternative and got me looking at BMW again.
